    D&D 5E (2014) Reducing Power Gaming

Fortunately for me, I have been playing with the same guys for 40+ years! They are well aware of my game ADD. We take turns GMing, so there are always a good variety of games being run--Star Trek, Dragonbane, Call of Cthulhu, DCC. I am very blessed!

    D&D 5E (2014) Reducing Power Gaming

I'm sure it's a good game, but I need to have VTT support. C&C is releasing a big upgrade on Foundry, and there is a workable compendium on Roll20. Plus: I just like Troll Lords. Good dudes.

Yeah. Castles&Crusades it is. Thanks, all.

    D&D 5E (2014) Lacking Motivation/Inspiration

One other cool idea (stolen from the irrepressible @SlyFlourish) is to ask them to write a 'one year later' story. It doesn't have to be long--what have they done with a year in game time? Might generate some great ideas. In my group, the expectation is that we are making the path together...

    D&D 5E (2014) Lacking Motivation/Inspiration

Have your players help you. Ask them for direction. Use their backstories for ideas. What would they like to do, and where would they like to go? Collaborate!

The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Added to D&D Beyond

From what I saw on the bug forum, they want the user to manually add a skill (like Old Lore).

The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Added to D&D Beyond

From the book on D&D Beyond. I do not see these skills listed on the character sheet.

The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Added to D&D Beyond

There was a problem, but I figured it out.

The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Added to D&D Beyond

I like it a lot. I recreated my character from Roll20 using the resources on D&D Beyond, and found it very easy. I also built an encounter just for fun; I had the compendium set to LotR specifically, so it only showed me monsters from the book. Very simple!

The older i get the less I need.

I have recently gotten rid of a bunch of stuff--old D&D stuff from the 80s and 90s, a LOT of old Call of Cthulhu stuff from the same time period, and some new things I bought but will never use. I recognize that I have a bit of dragon sickness when it comes to RPG things: I just...like it. I...

The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Added to D&D Beyond

We played this last winter (on Roll20, not on D&D Beyond) and liked it a lot. The rule set definitely...let's say moderates some of the powergaming excesses of 5e, so you still have the good parts of WotC D&D, but the excesses are sanded off. A very fun game, but I suspect it's not for everyone...

D&D General Matt Colville: "50 years later we're still arguing about what D&D even is!"

I started in 1981, and I remember being completely flummoxed by some of the tables in the DM's Guide. We used to play AD&D, but mixed it up with the Basic/Expert box sets rules and modules. It wasn't until I reengaged with D&D five years ago-- after an 15 year absence-- that I saw how brutal...

    Aging and Gaming

Brother, I hear you: I am going to be 56 on my next birthday, and I am astonished by how challenging it has been to recall rules. Granted, I am bouncing around between numerous systems (5e, Star Trek Adventures, Dragonbane, DCC, etc.) and numerous worlds, but this used to be so easy! The thing...

D&D General [+] What is your favorite non-WotC D&D setting?

Back in the days of yore, we played in Greyhawk. Then I ran my games in the Forgotten Realms for decades. We have recently played Free League's Middle Earth game (we played MERP way back when, too). Now I am learning my way around Midgard (Kobold Press) which I like a lot. "There are other...

So I want to use D&D (Greyhawk) Spells in Dragonbane...

I am using Dragonbane on Roll20. I can copy a spell then modify it to whatever I want it to be. I have been using BRP spells from Chaosium's many books. You can simply offer spells in the player's grimoire without having them associated with a school of magic other than the three in the...

My school was one of the schools @SlyFlourish helped to fund for our game club! Such good energy. We are very appreciative. I also want to shout out that Troll Lords Games also hooked us up with a really sweet package of goodies. https://trolllord.com/school-game-clubs/

D&D 5E (2024) Kobold Press posts 2024 DMG Hit Piece

I like the Midgard book from Kobold Press (to circle back to the impetus for this massive thread). I haven't looked at the Warhammer Fantasy book, but I read some of the novels and loved them, so I bet that's cool. Castles&Crusades has their Aihrde setting (also really cool). Lots of great...
