Polygon: Indie TTRPG Companies are "sitting in their own little corners of the internet and wringing their hands"

If I think about how TV would be if as many people demanded the fantasy genre on tv as they do in RPGs. Well let’s say the smiling face of the Yellow King lies in that direction.( People insist that being consistently irrational about what they like is being rational.)

    Underrated RPGs

Marvel Super Heroes - Campaign Setting - Marvel Super Heroes - TSR from TSR the yellow box is out of my range. But I am curious about the different Faserip retroclones. Do any of them have a system like the yellow box?

    Underrated RPGs

I am excited to read Cairn 2e, it will be completely new for me as I have not read Cairn 1e either! We Deal in Lead and Ruincairn Wardensaga booth look amazing! RuneScape Kingdoms is related to BRP?

    Underrated RPGs

I would argue that Ironsworn is already obscure, having weight among solo RPG players is not saying it’s relatively popular. Beyond the Wall being reviewed well and getting recommended does not say it’s popular either. I think Pathfinder, Call of Cuthulu, and other games are much more popular.

    Underrated RPGs

I have started reading the original TSR Basic from the B/X pair. I don’t know that I can appreciate something B/X adjacent just yet.

    Underrated RPGs

DriveThruRPG I don’t know how much this edition of Carbon Grey changes things. Looks interesting! Ironsworn seems to have weight in the solo RPG field. Beyond the Wall gets reviewed well and shows up in recommendations online.

    Underrated RPGs

At some point I need to get Tiny Taverns, it looks amazing! I am a big fan of cozy fantasy stories. I would be more excited by Tiny Dungeons except I don’t really know how it’s different from Dungeon World and other Dungeon Themed rules light games. Ironsworn looks amazing! I love the idea of a...

    The Silo (SPOILERS)

The books….. have more plot holes than the show. Honestly, downplaying the rant in the books against egotism and egomania is a good move (though the rant is implied.)

    Underrated RPGs

There are so many tabletop RPGs on itch and DriveThruRPG some must get unfairly overlooked. So what games have you found that don’t deserve to be ignored? And yes they can have significant problems but not deserve obscurity (many popular games have significant problems as well.)

Presentation and Rules Are Different Things

I vote against terse presentations. It sounds great until lack of examples or ambiguity in the language derails your understanding.

    New generic contemporary/urban fantasy?

I think that velvetviolet is asking for: Modern setting (not past or near future) Monstrous player characters (as an option but humans as one as well) A separation from a strongly themed property (not VTM or Dresden) An element of the weird hiding in “plain sight” BUT I might be misreading it all
