D&D 5E (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

I think that's a big part of it yeah, though some pretty NFSW-adjacent games like Zenless Zero Zone are multiplayer, they're multiplayer in a way where other people don't interact with you much (if at all). That's more like horny dolly dress (which is absolutely a thing - just look at the mods...

What Do You Call This Popular Beverage?

Yeah generally true, though equally I have heard people ask for "cola", or ask for Pepsi specifically and get asked "Is Coke ok?" and so on.

What Do You Call This Popular Beverage?

I voted other, but if it was brown like that, I'd assume it was a cola, and call it cola, in the UK. Maybe "coke" some of the time. However, more generally I'd call them "fizzy drinks" or "soft drinks". Probably the former though if I wanted to include Dr Pepper, Fanta, and so on.

D&D General You can now turn 2024 Rules off in D&D Beyond

Yeah they were actually promising this was "coming soon" from about 2018 through 2023, but then it seemed to vanish as something they were promising. It should absolutely be doable - they're just querying a database, but I think they don't because they feel people getting bad results increases...

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

I don't think you think that, actually. Sorry if it came across that way! I think you think family-friendly might sell or review ok. It won't. From a success perspective, it's NSFW or bust with CRPGs. Even if you fail to have heart and humour, you'll make more money and get better reviews (two...

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

Nah, you can. C.f. Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Both are "generational games". Sure, they released 2077 too early trying to get it on old-gen consoles, horrible mistake, but they made up for it, and Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 + the DLC is probably the best RPG of this generation - yeah better than BG3...

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

It wouldn't be "unfortunate", it would be a absolutely a guarantee that the game was a flop. A hard guarantee. People do not buy "family-friendly" CRPGs nor story-RPGs (i.e. Witcher, Mass Effect, etc.). That's a big part of why there are no AA or AAA "family-friendly" CRPGs and the only story...

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

You are assuming that. John Hight might mean that. He's been involved with CRPGs before. But he's also been an executive producer for over 30 years (a role which can be close to or very distant from production, more commonly the latter with videogames), so it's also entirely possible he's just...

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

Wait there's an SLA version of BORG? That's hilarious. I could see that working too. Honestly someone needs to make Rifts BORG.

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

I think the responses show that people have their own meanings of "exceptional" that don't tie in with the one you're proposing @Reynard, unfortunately. Personally I can go either way, but what I am not interested in is "I am an 18 year old farmboy with no real skills who has apparently been...

    New D&D Video Game Announced

This is correct, confusingly there are three different terms that the industry uses to indicate different things: ARPG - This indicates a Diablo-style game with highly randomized loot, probably randomized enemies to some extent, likely grinding/farming, maybe randomized/procedural levels and so...

If Meta had actively wanted to kill off that whole approach and to ensure it didn't become mainstream they honestly couldn't have done a much better job than by making it look like trash, making it look really hard to do (it isn't), blowing tens of billions (literally! $47 billion!!!) on it, and...

I don't think there is disagreement over the ethics of that issue, actually. Certainly none has been expressed by the relevant poster. Merely that there is a significant perceived degree of inconvenience, and I offer that said inconvenience is perhaps overstated. Also "come with clean hands" is...

Yeah and I would say this is another reason why the "serial solo" is probably going function better than a big pile of HP solo unless the specific mechanism it uses for extra actions is Relentless (X), which can work equally well for either. Yeah I'm aware I'm just pointing out it's likely to...

Geek Confessional Thread 2024 [NOW 2025!]

Yeah it's a very disappointing film. The writing comes alive briefly a handful of times in the movie, but for the most part it was turgid and clunky. And god so many of the fight scenes and action scenes were utterly terrible, like badly edited, looked fake as hell even by superhero movie...

    Benevolent GM stance

Sure, but helpful NPCs are nothing special as we both agree, and I don't think there's any GM stance where you don't see helpful NPCs - not even hard adversarial DMing - even then there will be helpful NPCs in practice.
