Baldurs Gate had the 2e rules running (the best it could in a video game) behind the scenes. It didn't work out for you very well if you just smashed the mouse button as fast as you could, everything worked based off your character sheet and the rules. I may be wrong but this is what it sounds...

Scourge of the Sword Coast would be good. I know you don't want to convert but it was written with the play test rules as you may already know so I wouldn't think it would be too hard to convert up.

I agree they seem a bit juvenile in their updates and interviews, but that may be being a bit harsh. Im sure their sour over the deal but just try to move forward with whatever you have. They seem to be hurting themselves with these remarks no matter how true or false they may be.
