D&D 5E (2014) So, I kind of want to stay with 2014 rules. What are my longterm options?

Your only option for a permanent version of 5e exactly as it is, without changes/house rules, and that won't physically fall apart is piracy.

D&D 5E (2014) So, I kind of want to stay with 2014 rules. What are my longterm options?

WOTC doesn't view 2014 d&d as a previous edition. Its the "same edition", but an older version which needs to be purged to avoid new player confusion. 5e is in WOTC's walled garden. They aren't going to release it.

D&D 5E (2014) So, I kind of want to stay with 2014 rules. What are my longterm options?

If you're buying it when wotc says that, I have a bridge you might be interested in.

D&D 5E (2014) So, I kind of want to stay with 2014 rules. What are my longterm options?

Yes, I'd like players for games I am running to be playing the game I'm running and not a different game.

D&D 5E (2014) So, I kind of want to stay with 2014 rules. What are my longterm options?

Yep :) If you want to share what legacy content you have with your players (since if they're new, they literally can't buy it anymore), you have to pay a subscription fee every month. And you're still not protected from the end case where they just pull the plug on the platform (see: D&D Insider)

D&D 5E (2014) So, I kind of want to stay with 2014 rules. What are my longterm options?

Anyone who's been playing D&D for less than 10 years has never gone through an edition transition. I imagine that applies to the vast majority of players.

D&D 5E (2014) So, I kind of want to stay with 2014 rules. What are my longterm options?

There's always [REDACTED] This is part of the reason why its so heinous that wotc has dndbeyond as the only option for digital 5e. Anything on d&d beyond can be taken away from you at any moment. Even if they let you keep legacy content you've purchased previously, you won't be able to buy...

OSE's official alternate Thief skills to good?

This is the most important part of OSR games in my opinion. Make it your own! Do what your table likes! Your Experience WILL Vary.

OSE's official alternate Thief skills to good?

The only thing consistent in TSR d&d products is that they're inconsistent.

    D&D 5E (2024) New stealth rules.

I would not be surprised if there is no expansion for skills in the DMG. Skills weren't given much definition in 5e to begin with (medicine was a single sentence!)

OSE's official alternate Thief skills to good?

Agree. This is the inevitable stumbling block that anyone new to classic d&d will hit their heads up against. Personally, I am satisfied with Gavin's interpretations in CC #1 and good with making that the official "canon" for my tables. But thief skill adjudication will always be "your table...

D&D General Hot Take: Dungeon Exploration Requires Light Rules To Be Fun

I fundamentally disagree with the premise that B/X is a lighter ruleset than 5e. It is just as, if not more complex, particularly in the rules sections which interact specifically with running dungeon crawls.

OSE's official alternate Thief skills to good?

Yeah, the rules are fine. Ultimately, there will never be a implementation of the TSR thief that 100% of people will like. If you and your players like the OSE d6 thief, use it. You won't ruin your game.

D&D General Hot Take: Dungeon Exploration Requires Light Rules To Be Fun

absolutely, but my point is calling a game from 1981 "rules light" on a account of its lower page-count isn't much of an argument.

Yeah but the cost of that is the layout is an absolute nightmare.

D&D General Hot Take: Dungeon Exploration Requires Light Rules To Be Fun

B/X was written for and assumes a party size of like 9 or so Players (not characters, PLAYERS), in addition to any henchmen/hirelings along with them. It was essential to have player in charge of 'wrangling' the other players rather than put that burden on the GM on top of everything else...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Player's Handbook Video Redactions & Takedowns

If someone put up a "review" of a RPG product and had literally no flip-through, showed off no art, etc. it wouldn't be worth my time to watch.
