It's a skill of it's own. Could always make it available as a feat.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

That's a strong point, But I would counter with this: We have Arcana Clerics, Eldritch Knights, Arcane Tricksters... but we STILL have a Wizard! There's Swordmages and War Clerics but still we have Fighters. The way I see it, the Battlemaster is to the Warlord should be what the Eldritch...

Aragorn should be a Warlord with a Ranger-like subclass.

Warlords could also rearrange the Battlefield, buff others, help them shake off statuses, and they had more stat points to put into mental stats (INT and CHA were their major secondary) instead of being dumb meatshields like a Fighter. Fighters were also more powerful in combat compared to a...

Gotta leave that room for MOAR SPELLS.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

I would argue the 1e Fighting Man was closer to a Warlord than to a 5e Fighter. They grew to be leaders of mundane men and commanded cohorts. As domain building and underlings fell from favour, the Fighter lost all that leading ability, leaving only 'I swing my sword' behind. The Warlord is just...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

The biggest obstacle is the return of those bloody saving throws. I’ve tried to build my own Warlord but it’s just a pain in the butt to find ways for a Warlord to still be useful to a 5e Caster when SOMETIMES they roll to attack and most of the time the target rolls to save. Back in 4e, giving...

D&D 5E (2014) Why I think gold should have less uses in 5e, not more.

Obviously 'cool stuff' is based on the individual player, that's true. I think we actually agree but voice it differently: I disagree with the premise of this thread that gold should do less, because then it becomes harder to have Cool Stuff for all the players. If a player can't use gold to...

And as a player I want to spend my money on Cool Stuff and not useless inventory filler.

You could improve your social position, or make your traveling easier, as well, which are also a ways to improve your character. If you can use money to go forth further away from your home base you'll have more opportunity than if you only have a couple mules. And if you can rub elbow with the...

This also make it feel like you're not actually being rewarded for how much work you actually do. If fighting a dragon doesn't reward more than fighting Goblins, it'll be way easier to just be a glorified exterminator.

D&D 5E (2014) Why I think gold should have less uses in 5e, not more.

Any do it in a way that it's not a second EXP track? Or do they just keep your survival expense as a high enough % of your earnings that you can't do anything else with you money? I don't want to just sound cynical or anything, I just believe that embracing the 'character improvement...

You're kidding yourself if you don't think Gold is anything but XP by a different name. If you can't improve your character in someway it's basically useless. Might as well be rewarded in favours instead. And you do what with that gold?

It's alright but this is a toy that plays by itself and you just spectate it.

D&D 5E (2014) How would YOU nerf the wizard? +

I also think if your nerfing makes the Wizard more fiddly, or complicated, or adds extra accounting, you're going in the wrong direction. I don't care if you think cantrip are the second coming of Tiamat, I'm not tracking their daily usages on top of existing spell slots. Maybe simplify it a...

D&D 5E (2014) How would YOU nerf the wizard? +

Hmmm.... I don’t know if I would call it a nerf but when it comes to 5e I always felt like the scope of things a Wizard can do was too big and the specialization too toothless resulting in their subclass being bland and uninteresting. I would cut down the number of spells automatically learned...

    D&D 5E (2024) What Should D&D 2024 Have Been +

See, this is also what I expected: A new entry point that cleans up the rough edges and clears up confusion, while ALSO being something of a supplement for old players. Like, instead of repeating the same subclass for the Fighter they give you the Champion, the updated Battlemaster and then two...
