Holy people laying on hands to cure the sick is such a staple though. I know diseases do not come up often in the game but this seems an odd decision.

Professor DM's style of D&D is pretty far from WotC 5e, and he is very upfront about it, so not reading the DMG isn't that big a deal. He runs his own mashup of basic, 5e and his own additions.

I can readily accept the Bastion workers being under control of the PCs, or not, depending on the table. The system however, is not set up for any investment in them as people. It's all too random and abstract.

And to be fair, it came out when most movies were failing to gain traction at the theatres. It's done really well on streaming. I enjoyed the movie too. Great fun!

Bastions should be personal things with lots of flexibility. The UA bastions gave a choice of rooms which had very specific outcomes and requirements, including the number of meeples, and what exactly they were working on. It felt very abstract. The table for bastion events was really small...

I don't know how the rules changed, but in the UA, bastions were very abstract. One I didn't like was that Bastion Events only happened when players were away. There was no way to appoint a steward and the meeples could just up and leave on a bastion event roll. This might result in no income...

If I'm remembering the UA correctly, your bastion being attacked lost you a room and meeples, at worst. Ruin of the Bastion happened if you neglected the Bastion by not giving Bastion orders for too long. Removing Ruin does not necessarily mean bastions are free from attack.

If this is true, I really hope the random rolls of the Bastion "meeples" disappearing are gone or modified more logically.

I looked it up. No Cha bonus in 3e. They got a bonus to diplomacy in 3.5 but not Cha. In 4e, a bonus to Cha is one of the stat boost choices. And of course, 5e cemented it. Been a slow build up.

This looks like a fun one, and there's probably some way to integrate it into a non - solo rpg, as well. Not sure how but it's been pinging around my brain.

Which is why I vastly prefer Combat Maneuvers. There are more tactics involved if you are not just automatically doing the Weapon Mastery over and over again. There's a little more creativity involved with A5e as well.
