    Old School Essentials

Yes, I ran it. It's weird and definitely Brad indulging his goofy side. It's still dangerous. Not my favourite Kerr adventure but we had fun.

Brad Kerr's Wyvern Songs is an excellent anthology. We had many hours of enjoyment from this collection.

    Sword & Sorcery or Bust

You can't go wrong with either system. For S&S, I'd go with Barbarian of Lemuria. I like the characters having different "careers." Conan, after all, was a thief, warrior, king, slave, pirate, etc. Also, characters start tough and competent. In S&S, I'll montage travel, so characters can end...

D&D General Do You Use "D&D" As Code For "RPGs"?

I don't use D&D as a blanket term. If I'm talking to people who don't know what I mean, but have heard of D&D, I'll say it's a role playing game like D&D. If by some miracle, they are still interested, I'll explain the difference. 😁

D&D General Mike Mearls sits down with Ben from Questing Beast

I read 13th Age and had some doubts. Played it and fell in love. I haven't looked much into the 2nd edition development. I think I'm nervous. 😂 Will definitely take a look once it's out though.

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

Mearls does not believe that D&D is doomed. He states that it will remain firmly in the number one spot. He does say that other games are growing, while D&D is shrinking a little, and that this is not normal. Usually the fortunes of other games rise and shrink with D&D. Crowd funding and direct...

Different philosophies concerning Rules Heavy and Rule Light RPGs.

This is often a misunderstanding. Moves were created to assist the GM and offer support for beginning GMs. They are not at all constraining. PbtA games make it very clear that these are not specific things players do. Don't name the move. State what you are doing in the fiction. Just like any...

Different philosophies concerning Rules Heavy and Rule Light RPGs.

I'm still at loss. Games usually lay out their rules, tone, and expectations. I can't think of a single rpg that could be blamed, either unintentionally or through poor design, for problems at the table. My example player was just demonstrating that D&D is a poor fit for him. My question is...

Different philosophies concerning Rules Heavy and Rule Light RPGs.

I'd like some examples, please, of games that have mechanics that are unintentionally causing social disruptions at the table.

Different philosophies concerning Rules Heavy and Rule Light RPGs.

But it feels like you are assuming that Momentum is a weakness as a mechanic, because some groups may struggle with it. But this is true of many game mechanics. Some games are poor fits for some tables. You are agreeing with this point, so I'm left confused. There's a player in my group who...

Different philosophies concerning Rules Heavy and Rule Light RPGs.

Most games, light or heavy, have advice on table expectations. There may be particular challenges that are attached to certain game styles, but I don't believe that any one style is prone to more problems. If problems crop up, shouldn't the table expectations be encouraged and enforced?

Different philosophies concerning Rules Heavy and Rule Light RPGs.

Exactly. Gaming is social and it's definitely not the game's fault if there is a dysfunctional group. Any game can fall victim to that!

Different philosophies concerning Rules Heavy and Rule Light RPGs.

If you see something in a gamestye that is so extreme the game would fall apart through sheer boredom or chaos, you are probably misunderstanding the rules and expectations.

@Autumnal Sunset is a beautiful cat. Love the name!

I don't think this is accurate. Players would get pretty bored. Even the most conscripted game isn't that predictable and formulaic.

    Daggerheart Release Date Revealed

That too. Critical Role is savy. I imagine that they're testing the waters with Daggerheart on their show and won't just completely dump D&D before getting a feel for fan preference.

Kobold Press Announces 'Cozy' RPG Riverbank

Wind in the Willows is a mix of adventure, cozy rural life by the river, and a touch of mysticism. I think it's an excellent inspiration for a game, especially with some regency flavour thrown in. Personally I can't wait to be just messin' about with boats.

    Daggerheart Release Date Revealed

I think it's also a backlash to Darrington Press/Critical Role. Lots of complaining there too. I think Daggerheart looks interesting. Lots of people have tried it and found it to be fun. And I love frog characters, ever since I played a grippli many years ago. 🐸

Yep. Lots of people get tired of or are not drawn to killing monsters or fighting horrors.
