D&D General Does a campaign world need to exist beyond what the characters interact with?

If it's a "living" setting with factions that have agency independend of the players, then yes. If you tell the players that in some location there is X doing Y and the players don't follow up on that lead, Y still needs to happen after a certain amount of time, and the consequences thereof must...

    Dumbest rpg idea ever?

Yes. There's a few wonderful supplements by "New Big Dragon" for old-school play that make good use of it.

    Star Wars: Andor

Here's a bit of "fan art" I made, in reference to an old 70s flick. [emoji38]

    Star Wars: Andor

Au contraire, mon ami! this is some of the best Star Wars I've ever seen because it's a slow-burn. It's refreshingly different. Though I can see how a generation of ppl who are used to MCU movies might think it's boring.

Dragonlance Dragonlance Creators Reveal Why There Are No Orcs On Krynn

When it comes to going for a thematic setting, game-mechanics like attribute-scores should be the least of considerations. Races aren't just a set of modifiers.

    Star Wars: Andor

Here's one, though. But don't ask me about it.

Best way to run 1st edition Forgotten Realms? (That isn't AD&D)

Try Hyperborea. It's probably the best version of 1E that's not really 1E. Though it doesn't really have nonhuman races.

    Painting minis; getting started

Victrix are great! If only I had the time, space, and funds to make a nice Norman army... [emoji29]

    Painting minis; getting started

Reactivation is a well-known issue with Armypainter Speedpaints, unfortunately. I have high hopes for the upcoming Vallejo Xpress colours.

    Painting minis; getting started

Here's two Anglo-Saxon huscarls with standard-bearer I painted a couple months ago. Minis by Victrix and paints by Vallejo.

Is Immersion Important to You as a Player?

As a GM, I want my players to be immersed/invested in the setting, but not necessarily in their characters. I tend to find the latter to have the potential to become unhealthy.

D&D 5E (2024) What is the lowest damage Fireball could deal where you would still prep/use it?

No. The best way to "nerf" it is to bring back all the balancing drawbacks it used to have when it was invented as a 3rd level spell: have it always fill 33k cubic feet, blowing back into hallways if applicable (casting it indoors should be very risky), have it ignite all flammable objects in...

D&D General D&D, magic, and the mundane medieval

Something that I absolutely disagree with. The Rulebooks are akin to a giant recipe book. If I throw an "indian cusine" dinner party and somebody gets upset because there are no sushi rolls and enchiladas, I'll just shrug and say "Tough luck! There's Murgh Makhani, though, and Rogan Josh, and...

What TV series related to the "Matter of Middle-earth" would you prefer to see?

I've recently come across the the "maple films" cut of the Hobbit, which is 4h21m long in total, but with an "intermission" break in the middle, so as to be 2 movies. It's wonderful, and the only way I can stomach the hobbit on film.

One Ring 2E - Who's Doing What With It?

Thank Eönwë, my package has arrived, after 23 days "on the road"! My weekend is saved.... [emoji3526]

D&D General D&D, magic, and the mundane medieval

"cba" is an abbreviation for a less polite version of "can't be bothered".

D&D General D&D, magic, and the mundane medieval

That sounds incredibly… sad. [emoji29] I'd have told the players something along the lines of "if you cba to care about the setting, I cba to DM for you guys".

What TV series related to the "Matter of Middle-earth" would you prefer to see?

Have you read the Children of Húrin?

What TV series related to the "Matter of Middle-earth" would you prefer to see?

That might be true. But a story like "The Children of Húrin" is, in its written form, sublime. But it is an epic tragedy in the Greek sense. The story of a family —father, mother, son, and daughters— that are utterly crushed by Morgoth. And while the relatively small focus and limited cast of...
