    Obi-Wan Kenobi (spoilers)

That is already sufficiently explained in Rogue One: in that movie Bail Organa specifically mentions that he's meaning to get Obi-Wan (implied) involved, and then says he's gonna send a female someone (Leia) to recruit him. Leia's ship, the Tantive IV is docked to Admiral Raddus's ship the...

D&D General Travel In Medieval Europe

Because in later times there were? [emoji848] I'd argue that during the "Dark Ages" the world was actually more magical than during the Renaissance. Christianity and heathendom coexisted for a time, societies still lived closer to nature, superstition was common, and book-learned "sages" were...

D&D General Travel In Medieval Europe

You've nicely summed up my problem with most officially published D&D settings, adventures, and artwork. The ideal campaign setting I have in mind is much closer to Anglo-Danish/Norman/Carolingan times than to what we have now.

What IP would you like to see as an RPG?

Try "Barbarians of the Ruined Earth".

Spelljammer D&D Direct Live Report: 9am PDT (5pm BST) SPELLJAMMER CONFIRMED! DRAGONLANCE!

Since often a grognard's concern about setting or verisimilitude is being defused with a "who cares, because MAGIC!", I think I can finally use that (non-)argument the other way around. [emoji28]

Cleric, Dwarf, Elf, Fighter, Magic-User, Thief. (Halfling gets the axe)

What did you study in college?

How relevant is Sartre these days? Ever since reading "La Nausée" in French class, I've subscribed to his brand of Existentialism.

What did you study in college?

I have studied several years of archeology, main focus Middle East (Sumerian up to Late Babylonian), secondary focus European Prehistory, as well as Sumerian philology. I didn't earn my degree, though, I got cold feet at the last minute. It was around the time things got serious with my gf (now...

    Glorantha: Which system?

One would think the most recent edition of Runequest by Chaosium would be it. [emoji2369]

D&D General How do players feel about DM fudging?

I dunno. I feel like an appropriate reaction should be: "Aaaaw, bummer! Ah well, xxx had a good run while it lasted. Now where are my d6's so I can roll up a new one?" But of course, with ppl now commissioning character art, buying character-specific sets of dice, and even cosplaying their...

D&D General How do players feel about DM fudging?

As a DM, don't prep plot. As a player, don't get too attached to a character. [emoji2369]

D&D General How do players feel about DM fudging?

Retreat or surrender is always an option. But a lot of players don't realise that and think once a fight starts it HAS to end with the death of either party. That's on them, though, not on the DM.

    Dave Arneson's Blackmoor

I liked it. But then again, I'm a fan of the OSR. It doesn't talk too much about (A)D&D proper, but rather about the events leading up to it.

D&D General Why Fantasy? Goin' Medieval in D&D

I bother. I like history. Even if it is infused with fantastic elements like actual magic, or gods that actually exist and intervene. Fantasy needs to be grounded in some semblance of historic verisimilitude to have any appeal for me. And since—and this is a purely personal opinion of mine—I...

D&D General Why Fantasy? Goin' Medieval in D&D

Something that doesn't get explored enough, imho, is PRE-feudal times. The period between the collapse of the Western Roman Empire and the Norman conquest seems to me ideal: You have medieval weapons and armor (well, not plate, but leaving that out you can just adapt the ACs for other types...

    D&D 5E (2014) Toward a new D&D aesthetics

The first one looks weird, and the second one realistic?! Do you have no sense for human anatomy? The barbarian in the second picture looks comically grotesque! Whereas characters in the first picture are all well-proportioned and anatomically correct.

    D&D 5E (2014) Toward a new D&D aesthetics

That, for me, is perfectly fine. Bring all the racial and gender/orientation diversity you want. But please don't make it bland and samey. As long as most fantasy art looks like it's been made by pupils of Samwise Didier and/or Wayne Reynolds, I'm not interested. The One Ring 2E has great art...

    D&D 5E (2014) Toward a new D&D aesthetics

You're damn right about that. For me, the ideal "heavy" armour in RPGs should be Brigandine. Full gothic plate is way too specialised for something an adventurer would wear daily.
