    Metal School

Hey, Chris Barnes, the original singer, used to grunt quite unintelligibly, but George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher isn't too hard to understand. As for the lyrical content of CC, they're the musical equivalent of slasher- and gore-movies. Bad taste, good fun, very tongue in cheek.

    D&D 5E (2014) New D&D WotC survey! On classes.

Here's a famous one. The second picture shows the correct reaction to bards, by the way.

    D&D 5E (2014) Which played-out D&D trope needs to die?

Please, for your own sake, never play Mörk Borg.

D&D 5E (2014) I thought WotC was removing biological morals?

There was a time (several times, actually) when different species of homo lived concurrently on Earth. Each time, willingly or not, knowingly or not, our ancestors out-hunted, out-smarted, out-bred, and assimilated them. And that's precisely why fantasy settings with dozens of sentient...

D&D 5E (2014) I thought WotC was removing biological morals?

I have no issue with that. But Redcaps and Fire Giants now, seriously?

D&D 5E (2014) I thought WotC was removing biological morals?

It's not a "slippery slope" argument. The question "where do we draw the line?" has been asked several times in this tread, by several different people, without a consensus being reached. Where do we draw the line? Are undead just sad, angry, confused, and in need of empathy and help?

D&D 5E (2014) I thought WotC was removing biological morals?

While reading this discussion, I couldn't help but think of this quote: Why don't we just dispense with any and all descriptions to end up with a purely mathematical game? "Your 34HP entity comes across three 2HD entities armed with what looks like d8 damage-tools." Surely nobody could...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why Don't We Simplify 5e?

Concerning the importance of exploration, as well as ressource management, I find this blog entry sums it up best. A lot of 5E DMs and players should consider this: http://harbingergames.blogspot.com/2020/04/if-your-torches-burn-for-only-one-hour.html

Amazon's LotR show - first look

Not Valimar. Tirion. This picture (probably) shows the Calacirya, with the Pelori mountains flanking the hill of Túna and the city of Tirion. The Two Trees seem to be in the background. The person in the foreground looks like Director Krennic from Rogue One. [emoji57]

    D&D 5E (2014) Masters of the Universe

If Thundarr is your poison, let me mention the game "Barbarians of the Ruined Earth". It's a Thundarr-flavoured post-apocalyptic sword&laser version of "The Black Hack" and an excellent game overall! I could see it work for MotU.

D&D General Do players REALLY care about the game world?

I absolutely love the Silmarillion. While I agree that parts of it are...difficult, the 3 central stories, "Beren and Lúthien", "the Children of Húrin", and "the Fall of Gondolin" are absolutely worth it, and Tolkien absolutely intended to release those 3 at some point. He just never came...

Thoughts on the rebooted He-Man (Netflix)

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I consider myself the target audience, being 41 and having been a huge fan as a kid in the mid-80s. Then again, I also liked the She-Ra reboot, and both shows are nothing alike! If I had to critique one minor thing, it would be the fact that I find Teela's jaw (too...

Discussing Sword & Sorcery and RPGs

What I like about S&S is that it holds a mirror to modern societies: Civilization inevitably leads to debauchery and degeneration, "savage people" are depicted as much more morally clear-cut: Conan might be a savage barbarian, a pirate, a thief, and a warlord, but he's honest. It's the...

Discussing Sword & Sorcery and RPGs

I might have put that wrong, I agree. But I stand by my statement that "making sure nobody can possibly ever be offended by anything" is not a desireable thing. People who want to will go to great lengths in order to find something to be offended about, even the most trivial things.

D&D General Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes and Halflings of Color

My take on it is, if a fantasy region (desert, jungle, tundra) has humans that have the ethnical look of real-world counterparts, then it is only logical that the demihumans living in the same region also have such characteristics. Meaning, elves living in a primal tropical rainforest similar...

Discussing Sword & Sorcery and RPGs

Offense is special in that regard, in that some people take offense in things that are not intended to give it. But if we demand to sanitize everything to a point where nobody could possibly take offense at it, everything just becomes a hollow shell. Nobody has a "right to not be offended", as a...
