D&D 5E (2014) How to defeat creatures with legendary actions?

A dragon, flying, applying his breath and then diving to one of the weakened characters to apply his claw claw bite tail (wings) routine, does this count as a single attack? In other words, do you mean single attack in the first round or single attack after one or more PC are not at max HP?

    D&D General [+] Racially-Discriminating Afterlife Systems

Well that is discriminating, i am sure a "classic" gnoll wold feel perfectly fine in abyss, but won't do well in, let's say elysium. To cite OP (Disclaimer: This thread isn't for debate, it's for positive, constructive discussion. My opinion on not liking racially-discriminating afterlife...

D&D General How AD&D Handled 'Attunement': The Magic of the Item Saving Throw Table

haha and here i went reading this in a rush and thinking to myself: A broom of (flying pearl of power) is an oddball item indeed .... until i realised that it was just the magic invisible , that hit my senses (not).

D&D General How AD&D Handled 'Attunement': The Magic of the Item Saving Throw Table

That is one of the things i tend to kind of handweave, as it is not the absolute number of magic items per char, but what they are and how they improve a char. Also it depends if i want to dm a campaign with loads of magic items or little to none. I will balance it out with other factors, like...

D&D 5E (2014) Why are potions of healing so expensive?

Bob the fighter is a cliche out of some webcomic, i just cannot remember from which. It basically Bob the fighter gets killed, and his Replacement character shows up looking alike also named Bob. And he gets killed so often, that the rest of the party looses count.

D&D 5E (2014) Why are potions of healing so expensive?

You need several Bob the fighters per campaign else, so :P

D&D 5E (2014) Why are potions of healing so expensive?

The Kruegerand is a bigger coin, but it is worth 1600 $ atm. I sold a very tiny gold coin about the size of a penny several years ago, and i got 100$ for it so as well as @UngeheuerLich you also got the wrong assumptions. And it is quite easy to correct just replace Gold prices with the same...

D&D 5E (2014) Why are potions of healing so expensive?

I probably misspoke : Put silver in place of gold for every price given in the PHB for a first approach to be more realistic. 20 gp today is worth about your 30k $ if you asume 1 gp is something like a kruegerand (which i do) so your modern times comparison is not quite correct. Translated...

D&D 5E (2014) Why are potions of healing so expensive?

Why does some basic weapon cost several gold? Or in other words why is gold so cheap in D&D? The prices in the PHB are the most unrealistic thing of the whole game. First fix: Alter all prices in the PHB to silver. Potions of healing prices in relation to other goods thogh is totally ok...

    D&D General On Grognardism...

Well simple reply, it did not peak in the 70s, but with 2e, in the 90s. By chance thats the time i got into pen and paper, coaxed by the EOB series. I had some gold box games, for the C64 Computer before, and i read some books but that is what started it for me. 5e is the best edition for Pen...

D&D General "Hot Take": Fear is a bad motivator

Might be that many rules cover combat but still, I would disagree based on that D&D is a RPG, a Role Playing Game, not a CSG a Combat Simulation Game. I do agree, that the mechanical aids for role playing situations are less than in other RPGs, but ideally you would not have to use these much...

D&D General "Hot Take": Fear is a bad motivator

The thing is, the games i have played or mastered which caused most frightening or paranoid situations at the table often were with very little or no combat at all. Often maybe because fighting would have been certain dead and the players knew it (or very strongly - but wrongfully - guessed it...
