    D&D General Gen X D&D

I was 12 or 13 in 1979 when I first started playing 1E, so I guess it depends on when you were born between 1965 and 1980.

GenX D&D looks mostly like 1E and 2E.

    D&D 5E (2024) So IS it a new edition?

If there are new core books, IMO, it's a new edition.

    D&D General Who shouldn't play D&D

No one should play D&D. But, everyone should play Pathfinder. ;) :)

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Player's Handbook Video Redactions & Takedowns

With the exception of the YT channel showing the entire book, I thought that there were "fair use" laws that allowed people to show parts of copywritten material as long as full credit was given? In any case, as soon as the book is released, someone is likely to .pdf the whole thing and make it...

D&D General A History of Violence: Killing in D&D

Except on days when the dice gods frown upon you, and you fail your stealth, diplomacy, intimidation and athletics roles. ;)

D&D General A History of Violence: Killing in D&D

D&D is a war game at it's core. I suspect it wouldn't be as popular if it wasn't.

    "My Character Would Know That"

In my group, we simply ask the GM, "would my character know that". If we feel strongly that the PC would know, we explain why, and the GM either agrees or doesn't and we move on.

D&D General Race Has No Mechanics. What do you play?

Might as well just play a human.

Why does the BBEG always delegate?

Thanks for the great responses everyone.! It will help me make my BBEG's more interesting in the future. Some quick context- The PCs came across a large ornate door with a seal and somehow managed to open it, releasing the BBEG (a fiend of some sort) from imprisonment. There was no build up or...

Why does the BBEG always delegate?

I just had a thought the other day about BBEG actions. I'm currently in a new campaign where we accidentally released the BBEG. Instead of just casting a well placed shatter, or some other low level spell to kill us all, they send their minions after us and teleported away. This happened to...

D&D General Why Do You Prefer a Medieval Milieu For D&D? +

I like many different settings, but I prefer them to be separate. I want my fantasy in a fantasy setting, my science fiction in a sci-fi settings, super heroes in a super hero setting. I'm not a fan of mixing laser guns with fire balls. It's a personal preference, but I see guns as going...

    Economic Board Games?

Years ago (1980's) there was a game called "Life is Ruff" that I played as a teenager. It may not be exactly what you're looking for, but it can definitely be played by teens. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/15379/life-is-ruff/versions

D&D General So, how much did/do you use psionics?

I selected "used in every 1E campaign". However, to clarify, I gave everyone a chance to use psionics. I believe the rules were that you ha to roll a 20 on a d20 in order to have psionic abilities. (High INT PCs may have been able to roll a 19 or 20) During the entire 1E era, only one player in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Long time players and 5e’s success

My take is a bit more cynical. They chose Greyhawk because it was already available. They didn't have to pay anyone to create anything new. Just add some polish and release an old product like it was brand new. As for us geezer gamers, we've got more disposable income than younger generation...

D&D General D&D Red Box: Who Is The Warrior?

Time (and sales) will tell if the gender change matters to enough people. But how many people play with miniatures anymore? Seems like a shrinking market.
