D&D General WotC Founder Peter Adkison On Hasbro's Layoffs

Stock options grants employees the right to buy shares of the company at a set price after a certain period of time. Since there is no cost to the employee, it's essentially free money regardless of when it's exercised. How much the employee makes from the purchase depends is the difference...

D&D General WotC Founder Peter Adkison On Hasbro's Layoffs

Call me crazy, but the buck should always stop with the executives. If the company is in financial trouble, they should be the first to feel the pain. I wonder how many people could receive at least 6 months of severance with CC's $9.4M total comp...

D&D 5E (2024) 2024 needs to end 2014's passive aggressive efforts to remove magic items & other elements from d&d

Yea, I agree. There are some classes that are noticeably more powerful than others. Hopefully the new version that's not a new version will fix that.

D&D 5E (2024) 2024 needs to end 2014's passive aggressive efforts to remove magic items & other elements from d&d

I liked the focus on magic items in earlier editions. But it makes sense to no longer emphasize it in 5E now that the PCs gain magic-like abilities as they level up. The issue with the old way, imo, is that it was challenging to evenly distribute magic items in a even or fair way.

WotC Third party, DNDBeyond and potential bad side effects.

Anyone who trusts WoTC is rolling the dice... Who knows what they may try to sneak into a contract with a smaller publisher. Hedging your downside often comes at the expense of limiting your upside.

    Disney's disastrous year

I agree that streaming services are a big factor in declining movie theatre attendance. But this doesn't fully explain why some movies are successful at the theatre, while others aren't. (I believed the general rule is that a movie is successful if it's revenues exceed twice its production budget)

    Disney's disastrous year

Yes, but would the price of a ticket be an economic hardship and prevent you from going to a movie you wanted to see (if Netflix and similar services) didn't exist?

    Disney's disastrous year

It's a value for the money consideration, not an economic one. In the grand scheme of things, $15-$20 isn't a lot of money. Most people can afford the price of a ticket. (Many people will drop $1,000 on an iPhone and not even blink). The issue is whether people want to spend their time and...

    Disney's disastrous year

The solution is simple. Create movies with interesting characters and storylines. Don't just rely on special effects or shallow tropes to carry a movie.

Pathfinder 2E Quick Rant - Adventure level

I'm looking for a new PF2 adventure for a new group who will be first level. As I peruse the available options, I've noticed that many of them (both official and 3rd party) don't clearly indicate the character level(s) the adventure is intended for. Why is is so hard to simply display that...

Player Core and Gamemaster Core Remastered Review

Well, if your entire job is to design game mechanics, I'm pretty sure they had those ideas on the table shortly after the OGL fiasco. (if not waiting In the wings for the next version) But again, the Archives make the timing of the split between books irrelevant, anyway.

Player Core and Gamemaster Core Remastered Review

I really don't care about the order , but I would think that the classes with the most significant changes would be released first. But the Archives makes the order of release irrelevant anyway.

D&D General If faith in yourself is enough to get power, do we need Wizards and Warlocks etc?

Sure, if the rules allow it, you can gain powers solely by faith in yourself or an idea, or love, etc. But I believe (pun intended) the underlying issue, is that taking deities (or other powerful supernatural beings) with expectations regarding your behavior, duties, or obligations out of the...
