    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder questions

There are a couple of interesting ways one could go with this... 1) You could stay mostly with 3.5, but continue to use Paizo's PF modules and supplements for adventure and setting material. You might want to have a copy of the PF RPG on hand if you want details on anything that's very...

    Surviving low-level old school D&D

I'm trying to figure out why "play it straight by the book, live or die means nothing to me" never worked for me. Two thoughts: 1) There are the rules to the game, and then there is the intent (which is certainly open to personal interpretation). To me, the intent is the fun of adventuring...

For Those Who Love, Hate, or Love & Hate 4E: What Did 4E Do Right?

3.5 player here. Couple of 4E things that intrigue me... 1) Elites and solos - the idea especially of making one monster function like multiple monsters. I can take that notion right into 3.5 easily. 2) moving opponents around - I like the idea of things that shove the PCs and monsters...

    Surviving low-level old school D&D

Everything from house rules to toughen up low-level PCs, to adjusting published adventures to include more resources and fewer hazards, to making sure the bad guys weren't too tough, to straight up fudging rolls at the table. I know there's a "PCs aren't special" school of thought with some...

    Surviving low-level old school D&D

I'm probably a softie - I tailor adventures to suit PC abilities, and I give the low-level PCs lots and lots of ways to succeed and survive. I've played many editions of D&D and that's just how I roll.

Do you have a local game store?

A couple and they're both good. I don't visit them. I get a steady stream of 3.5-compatible stuff from Paizo via mail order subscription. I do some online ordering via Amazon.com (though less now than when 3.5 was in print). I buy PDFs. I might occasionally buy something from a chain...

    What's the draw of half-orcs?

I played a half-orc wizard whose shorter life expectancy as compared to a human drove him work harder and be better than everyone else in the guild. I enjoyed playing the guy who looked savage, but acted aristocratic. Fun!

What's so special about being special?

Some people get comfort and pleasure from the routine (I know I do), but others may have eaten the same darned meal so many times that they will just choke on it if they have to take another bite. I think the ideal setting will have a mix of the routine/cliche (if you will) and the...

    ENWorld Article for RPG Examiner

I have a little bit of a different relationship with EN World, obviously, but I can answer a couple of these as a general user... · If you were to categorize ENWorld's community, how would you describe it? It's large but not overwhelming; it's generally friendly but as with any community there...

Has anyone had a chance to see it twice or more? How does it hold up to a second viewing?

    July Blockbusters

I thought Terminator was May (at least in the US). But I'm not 100% sure. Not planning on seeing it myself unless it gets rave reviews.

    July Blockbusters

None of the above. edit: I take that back, I found out recently that I WILL be attending a showing of Public Enemies. Forced attendance is still attendance, right? :)

    June Blockbusters

Saw the trailer for Year One before Star Trek and my wife and I ... could not stop laughing. Having been big Arrested Development fans (and Jack Black fans, and Mr. Show fans) we saw a lot of familiar faces. So we'll probably catch a matinee. I saw the original Pelham recently on DVD and...

Shaky Cam - Your Thoughts? (Forked Thread: The new Star Trek movie is...)

I'm not sure I buy "it's supposed to feel like a documentary" as the main reason to use it. In "Blair Witch" or "Cloverfield" sure, there was an actual camera in the story and it was acknowledged. In Star Trek, never once did I feel like it was implied that there was a cameraman in the room...

Shaky Cam - Your Thoughts? (Forked Thread: The new Star Trek movie is...)

I'm agnostic (and non-voting) for now. I would like to hear the theory of what shaky cam brings to the experience (what is it supposed to achieve)? Same deal with lens flare. What do these tools help communicate or imply, etc.

    10 years of ENW

Yeah, could be. I think it took me a couple of days to see that I was going to have to organize the tidbits I was gathering and so didn't start marking my material with dates until then.
