Trek Spoiler Spectacular! (Forked Thread: The new Star Trek movie is...)

Just some thoughts I have about where a film 2 might go, theme-wise... 1) Kirk's gotta grow up a little bit. We know he's brave and willing to die, but is he willing to lead, take advice, foster teamwork, etc? I think his look-before-leaping zest for adventure (and disregard for his own life...

My understanding is there was a scene of Spock's birth that likely would have shown some deeper interaction between his parents, but it was cut. I wonder if there will be an "extended" version DVD ... I feel like I heard there were other things like this that were trimmed, like an explanation...

The new Star Trek movie is...

I posted my reactions in the other thread, but wanted to add that when I went to a 7:15 showing this evening the theater was only about half full (though I think it was showing on three screens in the multiplex), so that surprised me. On the way out I heard some (maybe) high school aged guys...

Rate the new Star Trek Film

I'm giving it 3 stars - I enjoyed it, I'm glad I saw it, it wasn't the life-changing event I read about in so many reviews. The casting and dialogue (banter in particular) were quite good, the plot was a little sloppy, some of the silliest stuff was a smidge too silly, and the heartwrenching...

The new Star Trek movie is...

Very interesting points about how much media a potential audience of newbies might need to have access to in order to sustain interest. On the other hand, Star Wars (the original trilogy) managed to do ok with three movies. This is of course a very different situation. I wonder if other...

The new Star Trek movie is...

Just an FYI that I am jealous of all of you who are going to get to go tonight. While I'm free, Mrs. Noah is not, and I want this to be a "date movie" so ... maybe tomorrow night, maybe a matinee on the weekend. Have fun!

The new Star Trek movie is...

At the end of The Fellowship of the Ring, as the credits started rolling, I turned to my wife and said, "See? This is why I like this stuff" and she totally got it. I have a feeling I'm going to get to have the same exchange with her this weekend when I see this film. :)

    Vanity Search

Let's see ... six of the first ten results on Google bring up me w/regard to D&D stuff I have participated in, and Facebook. I'm ok with that. It is weird that the #1 result is placeholder page at RPG Planet for a page that hasn't had a home there in 8 years!

The new Star Trek movie is...

It's doing well on Rotten Tomatoes so far (100% with 22 reviews though only a few "top" reviews are in). Star Trek Movie Reviews, Pictures - Rotten Tomatoes And after reading some articles and looking at some trailers, I found myself watching Star Trek: The Motion Picture (though I also found...

The oldest scoop I have in my news archive is August 10, 1999. I probably started the site a day or two before that but I don't know for sure.

Forked Thread: Miniatures - planning encounters

I have six numbered poker chips that see an amazing amout of use - far and away the most used counters in my game. I do have some Fiery Dragon tokens and of these just grab whatever is handy at the moment. I somehow wound up with maybe 10 plastic minis (couple of dog-shaped and the rest...

Let's compromise and say ... January 2, 2000. :D Found this in my archive... The Internet Archive doesn't go back far enough to catch us still using it, but you can see the remnants of it here: old 3e board And yes, "one long thread" really did describe the first forum!

Pretty much. However, there was no forum for the site until I think Feb 2000, though I was in contact with lots of scoopers via e-mail and participating on WotC's usenet/message board thingy prior to that.

It's occurring to me that Aug 2009 will mark 10 years since the start of Eric Noah's Unofficial D&D 3rd Edition News and thus we are hitting a major milestone for the community. Should we celebrate it somehow? Maybe a chat party, or a retrospective of some kind, or a series of interviews with...
