That is why I posted in Rules forum, but if a mod wants to move the thread: please do so ;) @ Wish: You're right, there's some stuff stacking, especially the boni for hide. Ok, here's a suggestion on how to fix it: Skills: Zaleasar have a +8 racial bonus on Hide, Jump, Listen, Move...

    Rate this monster

Hi all, I've created a new monster for my homebrew campaign. It has already challenged the party, but I'm unsure about the CR. And perhaps there are some general ideas to improve it. Zaleasar (Large animal) CR 9 ? HD: 15d8+45 (113 hp) Init: +10 Spd: 70 ft., burrow 10 ft., climb 20 ft. AC: 25...

    Suggestions for a Kelvezu Assassin?

    Ok, here it is.... Kelvezu-Assassin Medium outsider (chaotic, evil, extraplanar, tanar’ri) Rog 1, Asn 8 Hit Dice: 12d8+36 + 1d6+3 + 8d6+24 +21 (170 hp) Initiative: +16 (+12 Dex, +4 Improved Initiative) Speed: 30 ft. (6 squares), fly 60 ft. (good) Armor Class: 39 (+12 Dex, +15 natural, +2...

    Suggestions for a Kelvezu Assassin?

Oh, I wasn't aware of that "non-associative" rule. But it seems to go well with my experience of beefing up monsters. OTOH, by adding the half-fiend template to, let's say, a great wyrm shadow dragon would (from my point of view) never end up in a CR 26 monster (IIRC here, maybe it was CR...

    Suggestions for a Kelvezu Assassin?

If you follow the RAW, it is CR 18 + 17 class levels of something = CR 35. BUT, from experience, a basic monster that was buffed by adding class levels and thus became (or at least looked like) epic is perhaps not THAT epic as the DM wanted it to be. I've build a succubus of CR 25 as a foe for...

    New FAQ: Polymorph issues solved

This may be some sort of work for a player, but only if you consider that the player lets his PC take a lot of different forms using Shapechange. If the PC takes only the most powerful forms (like adult dragons, solar, balor, marilith, iron golem, dread wraith), the player has to make only a few...

    New FAQ: Polymorph issues solved

Agreed. It is utter B$. I don't know how quickly the guys at WotC recalculate the skills, feats and stats (abilities, special powers, and so on) if an elf polymorphs into a human (or vice versa), but I do know that the new FAQ rules won't made it into my campaign as long as I'm the DM. House...

    Stupidest things PCs/DMs have done

Last session was great. The party (all at level 24 !!!) tried to observe three low-level rogues in an inn. It was nearly midnight. The rogues stayed in a sleeping room, one of them was guarding the room, door was closed. After the wizard and the cleric had gone to bed, it was the paladin's...

    A Party with no Cleric/Druid?

I'm playing in a group consisting of a halfling rogue, a half-drow ranger (can't cast healing spells yet), a pixie rogue/wizard and a wyrmling brass dragon. Most of the time, the party is running around with some hp loss and/or ability damage (the halfling stayed two days in bed to recover from...

Faerûn spell Mystra's Miasma - can someone clarify that?

If the authors meant it like that, the spell is barely worth in being placed at level 9 (but things like that did happen ;) ). That would mean lower damage, shorter durations, and more difficult SR checks. Hm, that would be ok, because the spell description says that MM acts like a sinkhole...

    Gods and Portfolios

Not necessarily. Kelemvor got the Death portfolio by expelling Cyric from the City of the Dead. IIRC, Bane took a portfolio from Cyric as well....

Faerûn spell Mystra's Miasma - can someone clarify that?

Faerûn spell Mystra's Miasma - can someone clarify that? Hi all, recently, one of the party wizards got the spell Mystra's Miasma (description in Player's Guide to Faerûn). It is a level 9 spell that simulates a Solid Fog plus: "...any spell caster in the fog gets a -4 penalty on caster level...

GM's: what was your first module?

It was Dragon's Rest, the last part of a trilogy. The other two parts were played by different DMs (same group). Must been in 1993, I think. I liked the setting: a floating island somewhere on the Ethereal Plane and used the map of that island later a second time in a homebrewed adventure (based...

Are you a good Dungeon Master?

Good?! No.... vile evil, a schemer,... something like that. :] Don't know if the players like that (until now, I rarely received complains about my DMing style....so, either the players are diplomatic and try to avoid discussions...or it was ok so far).

    GMs: What's your latest module?

I've just finished For Duty and Deity. I converted it to 3.5 and added some homebrew stuff. It was quite easy to make it an epic-level challenge (the PCs are now at level 24) Rarely I've seen such relieved players when they realised that they made it :) Before that module we played Lord...

    FRCS - Circle Magic question

*Sigh* Bad luck, then. One caster is a human male alienist ("The voices teach me the spells..."), the other a male CHAOTIC dwarven eldritch knight. So, that's a big no-no for circle magic in this group :\

    FRCS - Circle Magic question

Yep, that's what I'm remembering, too. But I don't recall the source or any clarification on circle magic. :\ A clear ruling would be of great help, because my hathran just has become a circle leader and we have two other spellcasters in the group...

    FRCS - Circle Magic question

To benefit from Circle Magic (FRCS) a character either needs the ethran feat (for hathrans) or the tattooed wizard feat (for red wizards). What about the other participants in circle magic, i.e. those who contribute spell levels to the circle leader? Must they meet the prequesites too (because...

Indeed. Just solved PATR. Thanks guys! I tried to get through Roman's puzzle and instead solved an other one. Fascinating.

Defeated by puzzle - campaign over: Here is the offending puzzle!

As usual...it is always simple if you know the solution. I found the rose-and-petal puzzle online somewhere in the net, so, if any computer can calculate the solution, it must use maths, ergo: the way to solve it must be a logical one...
