D&D General Sandbox and/or/vs Linear campaigns

No. All the rides were made by someone else. "Making rides" is not the only creativity to be had. Not everyone on the planet is a good ride designer. Sometimes, the results can be better for the individual participant to allow someone else to take some of the creative decisions, allowing the...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I just finished running that - I had the Beadle & Grimm's Silver Edition of it. My group enjoyed it. I am not sure about calling it "dark and twisted". That was not our experience of the thing.

Well, that's not surprising - if one is a fan of something, that something is viewed as superior to other things.

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Yeah. This often gets lost in agency discussions. Agency that the players don't want or won't use isn't really agency that a GM should be concerned with. Presence of unused agency options is not a significant value to play. That practicality should be a primary concern for play, but it...

... inserted yourself as I was raising a point in response to pemerton, not you. If, at that point, you're going to get in my face about largely agreeing with you... that's your problem, not mine.

I make no claim that CYOA books are sandboxes. But, it isn't like all adventures or campaigns are either clearly a sandbox, or clearly a railroad. There is more in heaven and on Earth than are imagined by those two categorizations. The sandbox/railroad divide strikes me more as points for...

A well-written choose-your-own adventure does not have random coin flips at the junctures, though. There's more logical relation between the choice and result than just drawing of lots provides.

The classic "railroad" has only one end that the GM actively drives play towards when the players try to deviate. Choose Your Own Adventure books had several different ends, and the book allows you to go to which ever one you want. The epitome of the Choose Your Own Adventure genre, may be...

    An examination of player agency

I think folks should, and should be able to, tell me with much more clarity what it is they feel I should be seeking before they tell me where to look for it.

    An examination of player agency

I disagree. It is an incredibly weak definition, which focuses most on where agency comes from instead of on what agency IS. The "inviolable rules" part looks to me to be personal commentary on how best to achieve agency, not part of the actual definition of it.

Mod Note: Actually, you've gotten reported five times tonight, by five different people, for five different posts, across a couple of threads. It is time to ask yourself if the pattern of behavior you are engaged in is going to serve you particularly well. If not, maybe you want to adjust it...

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

No, but you don't get GPS coordinates without signals from a GPS satellite, and they're about 12,000 miles up.

"Promising hints of life on distant planet"

The problem isn't getting enough space. Ceres has a volume of about 27% of that of the Moon. And, if that's not enough, if you can move an asteroid to another star, you can move them around here until you had a glob of them that was big enough. The real problem is that if - how the heck do...
