D&D 5E (2014) What would be the hierarchy of materials from weakest to strongest used in both Armor & Weapons?

As Cap'n Kobold suggests in his post, suppleness is a quality of chainmail, not mithril. Each tiny link in a mithril shirt is very strong.

D&D 5E (2014) What would be the hierarchy of materials from weakest to strongest used in both Armor & Weapons?

Mithril might make a good finesse piercing weapon (weight still helps with piercing), but cutting weapons really need weight to maintain their damage.

D&D 5E (2014) What would be the hierarchy of materials from weakest to strongest used in both Armor & Weapons?

Also bronze slightly stronger and heavier than iron for weapons and it doesn't rust.

D&D 5E (2014) What would be the hierarchy of materials from weakest to strongest used in both Armor & Weapons?

Weapons made from light metals like titanium and mithril are not good. Weight is a very important part of good weapon damage. Also titanium holds an edge poorly ( I understand).

D&D 5E (2014) Has anyone else expanded on attunement in their campaigns?

How about the Doctor Strange attunement system. Magic items choose their wielders, not the other way around. The DM can give a player hoping to win the affection/attunement of a magic item a charisma check. That way charisma can continue to take over the world:)

    D&D 5E (2014) E6 in 5e

I am totally excited about 5EE6. It solves almost everything I don't like about 5E. I'm playing it like the 3.5 E6 version with the following changes: All level 1 characters start with 2 HD for hit points (maxed of course) and a proficiency bonus of only +1. Proficiency bonus increases to +2...

    D&D 5E (2014) Polymorph Scenario

Don't shapechangers automatically make their save vs polymorph?

D&D 5E (2014) Falling Rules and actually Falling

Its mostly because of hit points as abstraction. Crashing into the ground from a large height isn't so abstract. I think a lot of the problem comes from changes in the rules from edition to edition without editing for consistency. In early editions of D&D 70 hit points was how much a full...

D&D 5E (2014) Falling Rules and actually Falling

You could add a saving throw for half damage and no damage on a 20.

D&D 5E (2014) Falling Rules and actually Falling

Usually the data is reported as overall survival so that would include complications... Here is an example of the kind of studies out there: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3735467 They reported 84% actual survival from 5-7 stories despite having a 50% survival prediction based on the...

D&D 5E (2014) Falling Rules and actually Falling

Secondly, another way to look at this is that there is nothing wrong with falling damage. The problem is with the hit point system. IRL lethal falling distances are consistently 48 feet for LD50, meaning 50 % of the people who fall 48 feet die. This would suggest that 1st level hit points are...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the most powerful spell?

OK, so this is clearly not the way the language makes sense. I have three arguments: 1)"... and unless you shift your attention to another creature’s thoughts, the creature can use its action on its turn to make an Intelligence check contested by your Intelligence check; if it succeeds, the...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the most powerful spell?

After looking at the poorly worded language of the spell, I decided that "either way" referred to whether the person makes the saving throw or not for a deep probe, the person becomes aware of the <deep> probe. scanning surface thoughts is not a "probe". This interpretation seemed consistent...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the most powerful spell?

"Questions verbally directed at the target creature naturally shape the course of its thoughts, so this spell is particularly effective as part of an interrogation." This seems really important to me, because it suggests that questions and conversation can be designed to lead the person's...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the most powerful spell?

I guess I'm the only one who thinks that magic mouth isn't just a great spell, its a world changing spell on the order of fly. In addition to be incredibly versatile for delivering messages (degrees, notifications, inducements, threats, warnings, taunts and insults), its triggering effect gives...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the most powerful spell?

So I disagree that an insight check is the same or better than detect thoughts. Consider the following situation. The party has captured a bad guy and they are interrogating him. " Where is the hidden treasure?' Now detect thoughts is probably going to give you the truthful answer...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E: Whips?

There is no reason to think that chopping wood is much different than chopping down a wall of ice (AC 12, 30 hit points per 10' section) or a wall of stone (AC 15, 30 hit points per inch) or a Treant (AC 16, 138 hit points). Or any other object or monster with AC and hit points. If you need to...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E: Whips?

I have to disagree here. The fact that whips are better for chopping down trees for high dexterity characters than a hand ax is ridiculous. Compare a 20 dexterity, 10 strength whip wielder (average 7.5 slashing damage) to the same guy using a hand ax (3.5 average slashing damage) or even a...
