D&D 5E (2014) Attacking worn or carried objects

10 hp seems like a lot. that's more than many first level characters and more than a goblin. It also means that you have to drop a lantern at least 30 feet to have a decent chance of breaking it. Imagining myself fighting with a lantern in one hand, I would most likely be keeping the hand...

D&D 5E (2014) Attacking worn or carried objects

The other way of interacting with objects on another person is with sleight of hand, which would presumably include cutting purse strings or lantern strings... Jackie Chan Monk/Thief, takes dodge as action and then steals opponents secondary weapons, arrows, disarms, or pulls opponents cloak...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the most powerful spell?

I would like to point out a couple of things that you may not have considered with some spells: "Give me 100 Azer slaves and I can forge an empire that would make the gods tremble" Arakses Al-Sakar Efreeti Pasha MM p 22 This is actually accomplish-able with conjure minor elemental, magic...

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone boost GWF style?

At the very least, GWF shouldn't make you take a dice reroll that is less then the original roll. There is nothing worse than rolling two 2s for a great sword and then rerolling two 1s. That feel when choosing GWF caused you to do 2 less damage than you would have if you took defensive instead :(

D&D 5E (2014) What are the most UNDER/OVER CRed Monsters in the Monster Manual?

I'm missing how flying PC's are so significant for killing dragons. Dragon speed is 80, all forms of flying that I can think of that the PCs might get are slower, many much slower. If the PCs are using fly spells, concentration flying is not something you want to be doing in a fight...

D&D 5E (2014) What else to I need to consider for a 5e realism hard mode?

What about cure spells? Not really sure what you mean. I have a fondness in my heart for the old cure light, moderate, serious, critical wounds, although I'm fine with them being the same spell just cast at different levels. I have a secret wish that fixing hit points will move hit points...

D&D 5E (2014) What else to I need to consider for a 5e realism hard mode?

Thanks for these tips, I'm mostly unfamiliar with them, but I'll take a look

D&D 5E (2014) What else to I need to consider for a 5e realism hard mode?

If you make maneuvers one per round with no limit instead of 4 per short/long rest, then you could eliminate the die roll (it is usually just added to hit or damage) and just keep the special effect and in those cases like evasive footwork where the special effect requires a numbers adjustment...

D&D 5E (2014) What else to I need to consider for a 5e realism hard mode?

I did also forget to mention that also was hoping to solve 1st and 2nd level character frailness :)

D&D 5E (2014) What else to I need to consider for a 5e realism hard mode?

most of the maneuvers work fine without a superiority die, there are a few that don't, and you can just give them a flat bonus or proficiency bonus to make the mechanic work. Its nice when the fighter isn't saying," I'd like to trip this guy, but I'm too tired out to do that, I've already...

D&D 5E (2014) What else to I need to consider for a 5e realism hard mode?

melee, rogue, and archer damage seems much larger than most spells other than meteor swarm. Initiative wins fights whenever the damage per round > total hit points.

Wow, I was unaware of E6, sounds like just the kind of thing I was looking for. Thanks!!!!

D&D 5E (2014) What else to I need to consider for a 5e realism hard mode?

I feel like I need to do something. Right now high level seems impossibly easy. I could do and have done what others recommend: double monster hit points, add extra henchmen for the BBEG, add extra encounters to deplete party resources, add urgency to adventures so the party feels compelled...

D&D 5E (2014) What else to I need to consider for a 5e realism hard mode?

Thanks for helping me clarify. So I'm trying to fix (in no particular order) BBEG viability, Wile E Coyote falling damage, character hit point bloat, rocket tag, and video game style natural healing along with a few other odds and ends. <odds and ends> for example: having a system that would...

D&D 5E (2014) What else to I need to consider for a 5e realism hard mode?

I have a great group of highly competent players and I'm thinking about running our next campaign with a 5e "hard mode" rules set. We are all interested in a campaign that plays more like a fantasy novel and less like a cartoon or video game. What I have so far is: 1)HD = 1 + proficiency...

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone boost GWF style?

Another option is to change dueling to match the "NPC fighting style" which is parry as a reaction for +2 bonus to AC or perhaps parry for proficiency bonus. It feels more like dueling than the current dueling feature.

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone boost GWF style?

I was feeling in a mathy mood so I decided to calculate the RAW GWF bonus (reroll 1s and 2s). I'm sure its been done elsewhere, but I've never seen it or bothered to do it myself, and its not that hard to calculate. Rolling a d8 average damage improves by 0.75 d10 average...

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone boost GWF style?

I like 1.5x strength bonus for damage with GWF (rounding up). This helps fix the silliness around one-handed longsword dueling vs two-handed longsword GWF and also the greatsword (2d6) vs greatax (d12) GWF.
