D&D 5E (2014) Many RL animals can see well in the dark. What else can they do?

Today I started by wondering which animals can see in the dark. Looking it up, I came up with an extensive list of animals that probably should be listed as having darkvision because they have a tapetum in their retina to enhance nightvision. Bears, cats, canines, rodents, whales, cows, sheep...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the most powerful spell?

Right, forgot the thread rules about rituals for your list. Since its a permanent spell, it doesn't even need to take up a spell slot. Almost all of its adventuring utility can be prepared during downtime.

D&D 5E (2014) What is the most powerful spell?

Magic mouth is an incredibly useful spell to me. It's basically a permanent alarm spell. you can have 4 or more rocks/ sticks/ arrows with magic mouth placed around your camp to help avoid being surprised. With 100 casts of magic mouth you can arguably make a weapon of warning or helm of warning...

D&D 5E (2014) Challenge, Optimization and Optional Rules

I'm in the nerf the PC's camp rather boost the monsters. IMO PCs have too many hit points and do too much damage even without feats and multiclassing. Stop the cold war and de-escalate before its too late! :)

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e on Hard difficulty

Mostly responding to the shock of the realization that the current RAW suggests 33 full adventuring days to go from level 1 to level 20. With 5-7 ASI from level 1 to 20. I starting seeing advertisements for professional adventuring companies in my mind. TIER4 ADVENTURING "I joined...

    Fighter

I like the EK as a wizard half-caster, fits so well with Paladin as a cleric half-caster and ranger as a druid half-caster, too bad EK doesn't have unique spells like the other two. I wish remarkable athlete were more remarkable, something like expertise in Athletics, so that champions could...

    D&D 5E (2014) More HP - was it a good idea?

I've been toying with the idea of play testing Hit point dice increases from proficiency bonus. So level one characters would start with 3 hit dice (maxed of course, because PCs are heroes), and then 7 total Hit dice at level 17. This solves first level fragileness, and hit point bloat. This...

D&D 5E (2014) To use or not to use feats

I only allow feats for Fighters and Rogues. Fighters get a feat at level 6 and 14. Rogues get one at level 10.

    D&D 5E (2014) Hit points explained

Rosencrantz is a wizard. He's not even proficient with a shortsword. The best he can do is get an auto hit and crit. Besides coup-de-grace would ruin the test and there are no coup-de-grace rules in 5e anyway.

    D&D 5E (2014) Hit points explained

Poison, Basic. You can use the poison in this vial to coat one slashing or piercing weapon or up to three pieces o f ammunition. Applying the poison takes an action. A creature hit by the poisoned w eapon or ammunition must make a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or take 1d4 poison damage. Once...

    D&D 5E (2014) Hit points explained

OK, so my character Rosencrantz decides to test this theory. He successfully casts hold person on both the LvL 1 barbarian and the LVL 1 wizard, eliminating all combat skills, dodges, parries. Then he takes a shortsword and chops each of the two. Both are autocrits, because of the hold...

    D&D 5E (2014) Hit points explained

The problem with hit points as abstractions is that not only does damage become an abstraction, but, healing and resting become abstractions. Temporary hit points become meta-abstractions. Falling damage at mid to high levels become ridiculous. And you are left with the immersion-crushing...

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a better Sorcerer

I'd like to see sorcerers be able apply more than one metamagic at a time to a spell at higher sorcerer levels (maybe up to 3 or 4 at level 20) and/or have the metamagic effects increase for extra spell point cost .

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a better Sorcerer

Meta- has several definitions. One is "as a higher level of abstration" as you point out. But the another is "self-referential". I guess I've always assumed meta- in metamagic was the second definition, meaning that it was magic about magic.
