    D&D 5E (2014) Tensor's Disc

I think this is a really interesting idea. I have an embrionic homebrew where each spell is based on a cantrip. If you don't have the base cantrip that the spell evolves from you won't be able to take that spell. It helps make magic work more thematically like you suggest and helps focus...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tensor's Disc

The coolest would be if you could designate a "puller" and make it into a chariot. It would be awesome to have a familiar pulling you around.

    Multiclassing Fix?

So 10/10 would cost 64,000xp+64,000xp = 128,000xp instead of the current system which costs 355,000xp (LVL 20)? Edit: sorry posted this before you clarified the numbers. I feel that multiclassing is already "off" in the opposite direction than I think you do. With front loaded class features...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tensor's Disc

Thanks. These explanations help a lot. Still 20' so annoying. Its hard to park the disc next to a hoard to load it up in a small room or to unload in it a small room. You could have a 40' walk (there and back) just to pile treasure on or take it off. I guess 5E updated to get more exercise...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tensor's Disc

Any idea why they changed the trailer distance on Tensor's Floating Disc to 20 feet for 5E? It seems like it eliminates the ability to use it in most dungeon situations. For example: You're travelling down a 10' wide corridor trailering your TFD and come to a door in the center of the...

D&D 5E (2014) Survivor Worst Spells: FIND TRAPS IS THE WORST!

I think everyone is overlooking the real benefit of Drawmij's....You can crush a sapphire as a single action. Do you know how hard it is to crush a sapphire? Plus now you have 1000gp worth of sapphire dust so you can use it to defray the cost of material components for your next sequester spell.

    D&D 5E (2014) [Homebrew] − Elf Ability Scores

The 1e solution to this was level caps. I guess that was simulating the elven culture of medium ambition. Maybe there should a trade off for trying to attain high levels that most elves aren't willing to sacrifice. Perhaps loss of Downtime or experience point or level decay. I mean usually...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Homebrew] − Elf Ability Scores

Interesting... I've always thought of racial ability scores as genetic. Cultural values can influence genes, but for elves the time frame for this must be eons. Of course with magic, especially feywild magic, science goes right out the window. If you had an elf with +2 strength and +2...

WTF is "cold iron", and why's it so special?

I think of cold iron like a cold chisel. The cold part refers to the cold iron tool/weapon being able to work or cut other metal that is cold because it is so strong and tough. This effectively gives cold iron the opposite meaning of cold-forged iron. Instead it refers to heat treated and...

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Initiate - A guide to an underestimated (and cool) feat

"Spare the Dying (Cl) - You don't need to be a cleric to play the combat medic, assuming that's your thing. Consider it a free proficiency in Medicine." I was just lobbying in another discussion for this to be put on the worst spell in the game list. It would be a decent cantrip except...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the worst spell?

Magic mouth is an incredibly useful spell to me. It's basically a permanent alarm spell. you can have 4 or more rocks/ sticks/ arrows with magic mouth placed around your camp to help avoid being surprised. With 100 casts of magic mouth you can arguably make a weapon of warning or helm of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Witch Bolt: Redux

Clearly he made his saving throw...twice And this is for like 1 point of electrical damage. Imagine if there was enough shock to kill your average person. The electrical tetanus should be worth one round of stun or as others have suggested lost of reactions. Falling prone because of stun...

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone have a good house rule to bring some consistency to spell casting in armor/encumbrance/grappling

Yeah kinda funny to think that a 150 lb back pack could have more penalties (except for movement) than a 150 lb animated backpack that's trying to grapple with you

    D&D 5E (2014) Witch Bolt: Redux

I like lightning effects to have stun. simulating real life effect of electricity on the body... "Even when the current is stopped, the victim may not regain voluntary control over their muscles for a while, as the neurotransmitter chemistry has been thrown into disarray. This principle has...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the worst spell?

Too bad witch bolt isn't like Jedi Force Lightning. With a stun effect each round. But then it wouldn't be an apprentice level spell.... edit... oops didn't see that someone just started a witchbolt thread

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone have a good house rule to bring some consistency to spell casting in armor/encumbrance/grappling

I'm wondering if anyone has a good consistency rule change for spell casting in armor vs encumbrance vs grappling. It seems strange to me that padded armor is too distracting and physically hampering to cast a spell, but you could be carrying 200lbs of pots and pans in back packs and if you...
