The Goblin - Pathfinder 2's Newest Ancestry!

They only way to do that is to say that goblins are now the most charismatic of all races (perhaps in a tie with.... wait for it... halflings ) They are more persuasive, diplomatic, and intimidating than the other races. They lie better. If there were a singing competition, goblins...

The Goblin - Pathfinder 2's Newest Ancestry!

Many people have ideas about charisma that may or may not be consistent. I think of charisma as natural ability to socially influence. Mind flayers and beholders are clearly leadership style monsters and they are very good at it. Charisma seems consistent with their lore. However, AFAIK...

The Goblin - Pathfinder 2's Newest Ancestry!

And I'm saying when a new edition is coming out its an opportunity to match the math to the language or the language to the math, and when is it easy to do so (as it would be in the case of goblins) why not do it? That are some things where the language and math don't align in the current game...

The Goblin - Pathfinder 2's Newest Ancestry!

But in this goblin situation the writing came first, and the math description came second. From a dictionary definition, "common sense: sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts." This doesn't sound that bad to me. It includes perception and avoids...

The Goblin - Pathfinder 2's Newest Ancestry!

Wut? Math often matches the narrative. That it sometimes doesn't, isn't a good reason to accept more poor quality design. Also I think you picked two poor examples to support your argument. Having personally saved someone's life with CPR, I can definitely say common sense helps a lot. And...

The Goblin - Pathfinder 2's Newest Ancestry!

OK, so they are imaginary monsters with a verbal description that says, "weak and scrawny" and NOT "astoundingly strong for their size." Doesn't it bother you that the math doesn't match the narrative description?

The Goblin - Pathfinder 2's Newest Ancestry!

To be clear Pathfinder PC goblins are listed as 2'10' to 3'4" (...not 4') and 32-38 lbs. In PF1 they had -2 strength, so this does represent +2 strength over the previous edition The published description in PF1 calls them weak and scrawny. In light of these descriptions, having goblins be as...

The Goblin - Pathfinder 2's Newest Ancestry!

high charisma = more social influence, not lots of personality. With a +2 charisma bonus Paizo has raised goblins to be the most socially influential ancestry (we may yet see a tie). I'm not really sure why no one seems to be bothered by strength. Chimps are strong for their weight, and...

Initiative Variant (Speed Factor) - actual use

Having an unconscious character lose an extra round is actually a nice solution to what I and many others consider a problem (whack-a-mole). For this reason, if I played this rule I probably wouldn't allow an unconscious character to declare an action for a round that they start unconscious.

Bulmahn on Pathfinder 2's Goblin Ancestry

I'll have to admit that my pushback stems from paizo goblins seeming like mis-behaved kick-me dogs that the owner thinks is cute and should be treated like a king and insists that you should too. In fact they should be getting a gold medal for choir competition because, you know...they can sing.

Greataxe, greatsword, and a little math

I prefer my abstract hit point to have more meaning rather than less just like artwork of polar bears in snowstorms can be meaningless and boring.

Greataxe, greatsword, and a little math

When thinking about weapon damage I sometimes use an imaginary weapon comparison test: I ask myself which of these two weapons would I rather get hit with? This helps me decide which weapon should do more damage or if they should do the same. So when I ask myself which weapon would I...

    Variant Weapon Chart

When I go buy pitchfork's on Amazon they only weigh 2.53 lbs and are less than 5 1/2 feet. 5 lb pitch forks seem unreasonably heavy. They also seem short for a reach weapon. Having personally used a hay fork for a lot of hours, and occasionally pretended that it is a real weapon, I'd...

The Goblin - Pathfinder 2's Newest Ancestry!

From a previous Paizo post about rogues and puns: "Are you plagued by a friend and coworker who peppers his blogs with puns and ridiculous word plays, often dessert-based? Does it bother you so much that you fantasize about stabbing him in the back, but federal and local statutes (along with...

The Goblin - Pathfinder 2's Newest Ancestry!

When someone goes on a pun rampage what's the more common response? a) people groan and beg for them to stop b) people clap, ask for more and shower the punster with love and respect. Do you notice that respected, charismatic people engage in puns as a habit or is it more likely to be seen...

The Goblin - Pathfinder 2's Newest Ancestry!

The original Paizo Playtest release says goblins " tend to flock to strong leaders" which would seem to imply that they are followers not leaders (ie low charisma). that they have "inscrutable quirkiness, love of puns" ie nobody gets their humor and they enjoy puns (aka the lowest form of...

Interesting House Rules - Bonus Action for Skills - What are the Problems?

For those with multi-attack available, multiple grapple escape attempts can often be made per round by using shove 5' away (replacing one attack of a multi-attack) instead of using escaping a grapple. Obviously there are some instances when shoving away to break a grapple will not work.

    D&D 5E (2014) Intelligence, the Forgotten Ability

I think the problem with intelligence is that characters with high intelligence scores don't feel smart and characters with low intelligence scores don't feel stupid. I use intelligence modifier for languages known (so an 8 intelligence gives minus one language. If that reduces you to 0...

Initiative Variant (Speed Factor) - actual use

I like that this gives the feeling that everything is happening in the same 6 seconds. Sometimes the traditional way of handling actions makes it feel like everyone has their own consecutive 6 second block of time. I have a question: Does getting knocked unconscious work like this?: A...
