D&D 5E (2014) The best solution for longswords

I would have thought the broken thing about longswords is that they suck when used two-handed compared to one-handed when using the appropriate fighting style. And there is no use for a rogue to be proficient in them (rogues don't have proficiency in rapiers, so a rapier/longsword comparison...

D&D 5E (2014) The best solution for longswords

So if I'm using a "baseball bat" two-handed in your world it would be a simple blunt weapon (versatile).... I'm assuming a d8 (like a quarterstaff)?

    How does this fix longswords?

D&D 5E (2014) The best solution for longswords

It still leaves me wondering why elves and rogues are training in longswords, seems like a waste of time, especially for rogues. Maybe elves are just bored with their long lifespans and are looking for a way to add a small extra risk to themselves - hidden elven deathwish

D&D 5E (2014) The best solution for longswords

You're right, the longsword is a not a bad choice for a strength-based character with a sword and shield, and all versatile weapons are in the same sub-optimal boat of doing less damage when used two-handed than one-handed when used with their corresponding fighting style in addition to losing...

D&D 5E (2014) The best solution for longswords

Except that they only did half the job, elves and rogues were never proficient in bastard swords before.

D&D 5E (2014) The best solution for longswords

Epic fail, this was supposed to be a poll , but I got timed out. First poll problems... Is this even fixable? Poll choices: 1) longswords should be finesse weapons. 2) RIP rapiers: go old school and replace longswords with bastardswords and replace rapiers with longswords. Eliminate rapiers...

D&D 5E (2014) The best solution for longswords

In past editions, longswords were a strong, iconic weapon choice for many races and classes. In 5e longswords have sub-optimal weapon stats but maintain some strange vestigial niches. Elves and rogues are automatically proficient in longswords despite longswords being an especially poor weapon...

How much do your trust the advice of others?

I keep looking down at that greataxe vs greatsword, and thinking, but that great sword is 0.5 damage on average more, and then when you take Great Weapon Fighting the difference becomes a whole 1.0 point, and then when you are executing someone who is paralyzed or unconscious or score a critical...

How much do your trust the advice of others?

I see your inner optimizer shining through Warpiglet...You've already recognizing how important strength is to grappling, and you didn't "fall into the trap" of trying to grapple with dexterity even though you've picked a finesse weapon for damage. Very clever. :D

    Pathfinder 2's Proficiency System Explored

I was worried about the small bonuses between proficiency levels, but it feels like different levels of proficiency may actually mean something. I'll be really excited if armor and weapon proficiency follows the same rules as skills.

D&D 5E (2014) Do Fighter Battlemaster Superiority dice feel magical?

Clearly you don't watch Steven Seagal movies You don't need more than more than 1 or 2 moves that you are really good at to win fights every time against 95% of opponents. Against the same guy the move may take a little longer to set up the 100th time you crush him with it but he's already...

How Pathfinder 2's Resonance Reduces Wand-Spamming; & Comparisons to 5E Discussed

History and literature are full of these kinds of heroic moments. Cyrano de Bergerac vs. 100 attackers Miyamoto Musashi attacking dozens of archers and swordsman of the Yoshioka clan. He later explains that if you can fight four you can fight any number. and this 3 vs 50 fencing...

How Pathfinder 2's Resonance Reduces Wand-Spamming; & Comparisons to 5E Discussed

TBH, I originally just looked this up online. There seemed to be a debate about whether it was 42/41 or 43/42, so I figured I would just be safe with 40+. But since its become an issue I looked it up in the books and its Gimli 42 and Legolas 41.

How Pathfinder 2's Resonance Reduces Wand-Spamming; & Comparisons to 5E Discussed

My copy of tLotR book says this...in chapter VIII Road to Isengard 'Forty-two, Master Legolas!' he cried. 'Alas! my axe is notched: the forty-second had an iron collar on his neck. How is it with you?' 'You have passed my score by one,' answered Legolas. So yeah 40+ each Also at...

How Pathfinder 2's Resonance Reduces Wand-Spamming; & Comparisons to 5E Discussed

Seems like Aragorn would at least be as good as Legolas and Gimli and both of them had 40+ kill counts in a single battle. I would say that's mostly not having to worry about fighting orcs.

How Pathfinder 2's Resonance Reduces Wand-Spamming; & Comparisons to 5E Discussed

On the Math: I'm excited for BBEGs to be strong, having meaningful final boss fights is really important to the games I enjoy. High level swordsman absolutely destroys 8 low level brigands :)

Pathfinder 2: Crits, Skills, Scaling, & Proficiencies!

So happy to see pathfinder resistance. I can't stand 5e resistance because: 1) It sometimes doesn't play well with narrative: For example: I put on some fire resistant oven mitts to take a hot pan of cookies out of the oven. 5E - I get burned, just not as bad. 3x/Pathfinder I'm OK, just...

D&D 5E (2014) No good deed goes unpunished

I like the idea of the town using the money wisely to rebuild the town, help those who suffered loss, improve the defenses and public works. But the town is once again besieged by monsters and needs the parties help when they return. The party has the opportunity to help them out again. But...

    D&D 5E (2014) Re-opening discussion on multiple spell concentration.

I have to wonder how intentional it is considering there are plenty of self-only wizard combat spells that require concentration: alter self (natural weapons), blur, vampiric touch Also paladins have a bunch of melee concentration spells which were presumably for buffing themselves: magic...
