D&D 5E (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

Frodo is a Warlock, Folk Hero background He gets greater invisibility, limited clairvoyance, frightful presence and protection from undead, but the cursed ring corrupts his soul (Wis save on every use). Failure leads to fear being internalised to paranoia, hallucinations and obsession

Which ghosts would make great pcs?

Yeah I dunno if Macbeth or the White Lady make for good PCs, Macbeths more the villain and the White Lady an NPC. Sir John Moore would be a good option though

D&D 5E (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

Is Folk hero still a background in 2024? Is it the Farmer now? Folk hero was the commoner who had a defining moment where they stood their ground and fought off the ogre despite having no training - he becomes a fighter. Jack who sneaks into the giants castle then cuts down the beanstalk...

D&D 5E (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

You can just give a chatacter a background and no class abilities to represent commoners. Giving background feats was nice, limiting the number of backgrounds was dumb

D&D 5E (2014) Drawbacks to Increasing Monster AC Across the Board?

I prefer keeping the attack roll and abandoning damage (just go to hits) simply because it keeps the focus on building PC skill and not on getting bigger weapons - weapons shouldnt matter, a skilled fighter can kill you just as easily with a knife as with giant battle axe

Your most "visceral" experience at a movie theater.

yeah I had a crush on Pheobe Cates for my teenage years too :) but more relevantly I'm reminded of the "father died climbing down the chimney" speech in Gremlins - the image of santa with a broken neck rotting in a chimney stuck with me for a long time afterwards, its the most horrifying part of...

D&D 5E (2024) What medievalesque skill name do you prefer, for machinery, architecture, math, physics?

“The Higgs boson? Think of it as the ripple caused when the Loom of Reality is distorted by its weave. A brief distortion in the veil that reveals how form takes hold of the formless. All things begin in boundless radiance, like the light of stars, but in this material realm that divine fire...

Your most "visceral" experience at a movie theater.

The original Schrek version of Nosferatu, screened at a late night film festival - the combination of being silent and its use of shadows was really evocative and the scene on the ship where Orlok rises from his grave was really startling - it is my favourite horror movie (I dont watch much...

Spoilers Doctor Who s15 (or 2) [[spoilers!]]

yeah James Gasiks reference to Martha in Last of the Timelords showed me that I was conflating that with the Big Bang - my mistake indeed! - it doesnt change my point about the Doctor as virtual god powered by narrativium though

Spoilers Doctor Who s15 (or 2) [[spoilers!]]

Does no one remember the Pandorica Opens/Big Bang when the Doctor uses the belief of all humanity to reset the entire Universe? If thats not cosmic magic what is? Matt Smiths Doctor was arguably pushing the Doctor as virtual god as a core theme -then giving us the whole Silence plot to have him...

    Happy Mother's Day

Interesting that UK Mothering Sunday is a religious feast day supporting the Mother Church whereas the rest of the Commonwealth follows the secular US tradition. Funny how these things happen

D&D 5E (2014) Drawbacks to Increasing Monster AC Across the Board?

I think its more fun to give monsters things like evasion and repositioning abilities or use cover and hide and terrain advantages, make combats dynamic - use lair actions for everything

D&D 5E (2024) What medievalesque skill name do you prefer, for machinery, architecture, math, physics?

Process is different but why should the outcomes be so? An alchemist creating a vial of alchemist fire is different to a wizard casting a fireball afterall And DnD already has tech masquerading as magic items - like Googles of Night Vision

D&D 5E (2024) What medievalesque skill name do you prefer, for machinery, architecture, math, physics?

why? as you say a fantasy science isnt that different to a magic so why would the Archimedes death ray be any more disruptive than a staff of fire? The Archimedes Ray is utilised in the Malyasian movie "Malay Chronicles" where it is ship mounted and used to set an invading fleet on fire, fun...

Spoilers Doctor Who s15 (or 2) [[spoilers!]]

I do like when they dip into different cultural traditions when crafting storys for the show and having an African focus given the origins of the new Doctor was nice (even if it was a bit of a kitchen sink Africa). the term gods has been used throughout the history of Doctor Who and never...
