For those who have embraced new systems/games, what was the deciding factor?

For me, I have always been looking for systems that rewarded player input more than modifiers, and which duplicate real-world results. And which play smoothly. I've found a few, enough to keep me in the hobby.

How open are you to trying new systems?

I am very open, if the system brings something to the table besides yet another minor variant to existing systems, or simply strips down the rules and calls itself 'rules-light'. But sadly, innovation is thin on the ground. It feels (to me) like the last twenty years have seen more emphasis...

What are the primary reasons your players reject other systems/settings/games?

Me, too. I prefer older gamers, because their lives have stabilized. Definitely no college students, because every semester there's a schedule crisis.

What are the primary reasons your players reject other systems/settings/games?

I provide all game materials, so price is not a factor. So far, the majority of my group plays whatever I provide. I have lost a player or two because they did not care for the settings I choose, but not enough to impede the progress of our weekly game, and the online replacement depot plugs...

    Underrated RPGs

Ive only gotten a couple one-shots. It is such an awesome concept and setting, but you need the right group to make it work.

    Underrated RPGs

Kenzer's Hackmaster 5e. A d100 system that is a refined version of their Aces & Eights Old West RPG, HM5 is low-magic, combat-intense, and skill-based. Kenzer still limps along, but it doesn't get the love it deserves. Foryunately, it gets solid support from Roll20.

    New generic contemporary/urban fantasy?

    Ah. Got it.

    New generic contemporary/urban fantasy?

The problem with that, is super-rich villains would have so little trouble disposing of PC foes, via legal systems, contract killers, spin doctors, and all sorts of pricy conventional methods. IME, you want your villains in modern day a bit more limited in resources, and more out-of-sync with...

    What's your VTT of choice?

I used MapTool for a decade, so that might have made me more open. But I have zero HTML skills, and using Roll20 is a cinch. Of course, I don't play D&D, so it might be an issue of how systems are portrayed. I believe Roll20 and D&D Beyond are cooperating.

    What's your VTT of choice?

Roll20. Reliable, stable, continually improving, and above all, user-friendly. If you can drag and click, you can use it.

It's been so long since the last GURPS edition, that the present day is now in the "future" tech level

One thing that old age has taught me, is that the future seldom looks like you imagined, or hoped for. And that there is a constant stream of 'in thirty years...' predictions. In the 70s, for instance, we were supposed to have run out of oil and be fighting wars over cropland by the 2000s. And...

Are there any Alien Invasion RPGs/Settings

Nope, not useful. You put glitter on bad rules, its just bad rules with glitter.
