D&D General Hidden Path Making 3rd Person Open World AAA D&D Video Game

Like others have said, it's big budget. But there's no "A" or "AA" so it's basically meaningless.

WotC WotC Gets A New Logo?

It looks like the logo for a movie or TV show from 20-35 years ago, not the logo of an actual company in 2021.

    D&D 5E (2014) Do Assassins suck?

Others have hit on why the Assassin is weak. It doesn't scratch the Assassin itch enough. My faves are Scout and Swashbuckler. They feel like what it says on the tin.

TSR Running list of potential problematic issues in TSR era DnD

Humans being overwhelmingly white. There was Oriental Adventures but that highlighted that the core game was white and non-white was the alternate. Though I appreciate the inclusion of Oriental Adventures and the depiction of Asian-derived play being worthy of being the center of a campaign. It...

D&D General On different tones and aesthetics in D&D

If there's anything that 2e and its many official setting showed my younger self it's that D&D could be a whole lot of different things and still be D&D.

D&D General Common gaming clichés (and how to subvert them)

In a campaign aborted because people moved I had it begin in an inn the PCs were staying at in the Foreign Quarter. The person who approached was neither hooded nor mysterious. He also offered no money to hire them for an assignment. He answered all of their questions as best he could. It was a...

    D&D 5E (2014) "Combat exhaustion" at 0 hp?

I have +1 exhaustion level at zero HP and it's never led to a 5MWD. It's led to players using their HD sooner rather than later. The most levels of exhaustion I've ever had was probably three levels, though it may have only been two on several occasions. What it did do was lead to players...

D&D 5E (2014) Perception, Passive Perception, and Investigation

Perception is based on Wisdom. Investigation is based on Intelligence. Non-intelligent animals have decent Wisdom but terrible Intelligence. Therefore, if it's something most non-intelligent animals could perceive/notice it's Perception. Otherwise it's Investigation. I leave defining Passive...

Dragonlance "The Women of Dragonlance" -- Larry Elmore's New Dragonlance Painting

I met Elmore at DragonCon in Atlanta. I think he was there every year I went. One year I bought his art book (signed) as he had a number at his table. I told him I, like many, loved his Red Box cover and that I wanted him to sign my coverless Red Box DMG and I'd bring it the next year. He...

    D&D 5E (2014) Revising Castle Grayhawk for 5e

I'll admit to finding the module funny when I bought it at the age of 14. I had no connection to Grayhawk so no possibility of being offended. It's a completely silly dungeon.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Healing Spirit Nerf=Complete Overkill

That seems like an awful long time for a fight. Longest fights in 5e lasted four hours. One involved 5 PCs, 5 NPCs (each PC ran one NPC) and an attack by about 30-40 goblins that were assaulting a homestead throughout the night and next morning. Next campaign, which was sadly cut short, I told...

D&D 5E (2014) How much magic do you have in your game?

I chose 3rd. Fifth level characters are quite powerful no matter the class - third level spells and two attacks per round. My first long 5e campaign had slow advancement and as the PCs hit 5th level their power level ramped up considerably.

D&D 5E (2014) The New D&D Book: Candlekeep Mysteries: 17 Mystery Adventures [UPDATED!]

I'm cautiously optimistic about this book, which is saying a lot as I've largely checked out of D&D for the last year or so and not purchased anything. The alternative cover is quite nice. Probably my favorite so far. I need you guys to all buy this day one and review it for me!

D&D 5E (2014) Traits, Ideals, Bonds, and Flaws

This is the version I use. Let the player claim inspiration. When a player claims inspiration it encourages him to figure out his character, takes the burden off the DM, and informs the other players what the other characters are like. PCs can't ever have more than one inspiration point, can't...

D&D 5E (2014) Have the designers lost interest in short rests?

A few years ago I got rid of short rests and just tripled all short rest abilities and let them operate on a long rest. It's basically similar to others who allowed PCs to get 2 short rests per long rest. This left resting for HP as almost the only use of a short rest and that was shortened to...

D&D 5E (2014) What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

I don't like watching or listening to others play D&D. But I think it's a huge draw for people that haven't played D&D for years and years like many of us here have. It's the closest many will get to the kinds of D&D that I think many of us have achieved. For me, I didn't really "get" D&D until...

D&D 5E (2014) New D&D WotC survey asks if you read ENWORLD!

I totally forgot to write-in Al-Qadim (or was that a choice?). I completely skipped buying the setting when it came out but, as I'm an Arabic linguist now, I bought all the Al-Qadim stuff off of ebay, all of which was in incredible shape, way back in 2015. That setting is loads of fun. It oozes...

Planescape Planescape to languish in purgatory?

The DMs Guild Eberron book showed WOTC the way forward with settings books that may not be ready for a mass release. Get someone really tied to the setting to write the book and put it on DMs Guild as a pdf. Maybe even do a Kickstarter if Hasbro would even do such a thing. Give customers a print...
