D&D Movie/TV (Yet another) D&D Movie Speculation thread.

Deadpool was a rare mid-budget movie and it shows. Dodgy CGI and in many instances, sets that would be no different than any random drama. Mortal Engines bombed. Into the Spider-Verse got incredible reviews and will likely break even. Nutcracker did poorly. Bumblebee got great reviews and it's...

    Balancing out Racial Abilities

You can see from what I quoted that dark vision is a "lesser trait" worth zero points. What he's saying is that, according to his calculations, WOTC values dark vision at zero points as it was the only way he could get the main races to balance at 12 points each.

    Balancing out Racial Abilities

Here's the enworld thread on reverse engineering races. http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?496297-Second-Edition-Reverse-Engineered-D-amp-D-5e-race-design-and-over-40-example-races I can't seem to find where he incorporated races from Volo's even though I'm fairly certain I read his...

What Are Your DM New Year's Resolutions?

    1. Any resolutions on things you want to do? 2. What do you want to improve in your DMing? 3. Will you be trying out something new in 2019? 4. What are your DM weaknesses? It's not always bad to be critical of yourself. Knowing your limitations can only make you a better DM! My answers...

    Balancing out Racial Abilities

There's a guy who derived point values for all PHB races and for many others from Volo's Guide. You can search on it fairly easily if you want to see what the makers of the game probably valued racial abilities at. Turns out, darkvision is worth 0 points. Also, I don't get your desire for us...

D&D 5E (2014) How would changing bows to Str-only change the game?

So something like a reverse finesse property.

Encumbrance Variant (load vs equipment slots)

This reminds me a bit of the old school time tracking where actions are rounded up to what you can do in one turn, i.e. 10 minutes. Round items to what I assume is the nearest five pounds or thereabouts and call it a day. If something is way under that, roll it into the weight of something else.

    "Impossible" D&D Quiz

This was probably the hardest question. Being a huge Mystara fan, I knew the answer. But it's the one I thought might trip someone up.

    Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Sidekicks

I've already used a sidekick in my last campaign. It was a mastiff, specifically a Cane Corso. I found it easiest just to make it a Barbarian (wolf, of course) that got 1/2 xp like an old-school henchman. It was easier making it an actual PC class as I already had rules for it and the party...

Riddle me this: How often do you use riddles?

I like riddles and puzzles because they seem to be a part of D&D history in that old modules had them and players enjoy different things in the game, anyway. I've only had one puzzle in 5e that the players themselves had to solve or they'd all die (eventually, of starvation). It was from B10 in...

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

I added one level of exhaustion for each time a PC dropped to zero HP. As it turned out, no PC every dropped to 0 HP more than once per long rest, and that's with long rests of one week. PCs routinely dropped to 0 HP, don't get me wrong. It's just either by random chance or good play, it never...

Using ideals, bonds, flaws and traits for advantage

Of course they haven't used it yet. With how stingy and rare it is it course your players will hoard it to the point of uselessness. What else did you expect to happen?

So Mike Mearls is on the phone...

I'd do something similar to the OP, though I'd make it an adventure where you travel from setting to setting for each Act. Maybe use Planescape or Spelljammer to travel to the older settings of D&D and you could include a little background for each of the locations.

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

The index. The "we know our weapons tables are weak, so here are 50 more spells".

Skills used by players on other players.

This. Ten thousand times this. I use this example almost verbatim (though in my example it's a statue and not a door. Every statue in D&D is suspicious.). The statue gets used as an example of how stating a Goal and Approach can variously lead to a Perception, Investigation, History, Religion...

History Trivia: What module was this?

UK2 or UK3. It's a two-part series and I can't remember which had that. Give me a second to look. EDIT: It's UK2 - The Sentinel. I flipped through my copy and it's on page 16. "I assailed the creatures, intent on vengeance, but all my hard-learned arts were in vain and these hands which have...

Review Dragon Heist, Mad Mage, and Ravnica!

This is my basic opinion, as well. It's not good enough to be a hard cover. I got it for under $20, so there is that. It doesn't need to be epic for that price. But it's not interesting enough of a read to keep me interested for very long when I open it up. It's basically the kind of random...

Review Dragon Heist, Mad Mage, and Ravnica!

I am a font nerd. This is an important subject. There is even an entire website that will explain all the fonts used in D&D publications. For the record, Baldur is the best D&D font. (or at least Baldur being a re-creation of whatever the D&D font was actually called).
