    Evocation Potent Cantrip

It should. I mean, by rule it doesn't. But it should. I can't believe I didn't think of this with the Evocation Wizard I DMed in my last campaign. She was in junior high and it was her first time playing D&D (with her mother and sister) so it's not like she was totally into the rules. She...

WotC President Chris Cocks Talks Magic and D&D

Pure anecdote, but I stopped DMing AL with Season 8 changes being the last straw. It's less fun to play and less fun to run. It doesn't really feel like D&D. Its only saving grace is that it gives new players a place to play.

WotC President: D&D Up 30% in 2018; More MtG Crossovers Coming

Pure anecdote, but I stopped DMing AL with Season 8 changes being the last straw. It's less fun to play and less fun to run. It doesn't really feel like D&D. Its only saving grace is that it gives new players a place to play.

Burning Questions: Why Do DMs Limit Official WOTC Material?

Dude, the players and I all saw The Lego Movie. We vote that Taco Tuesday is on Friday. Just like the movie says.

Mike Mearls: so here’s the first part of my two-weapon fighting house rule

Your math is off. You don't double stat bonus on a crit, only damage dice. Also, your average damage from GWF is off. It's GWF = .65*11.333 + .05*8.333 = 7.78 TWF = .65*6.5 + .05*3.5 = 4.075*2 = 8.15 That's for a 65% hit chance, level 1, and the appropriate fighting style.

How do you encourage players to interact with the environment?

Have descriptions that are interesting enough to entice players to react to them. It doesn't even have to be telegraphing just a good description. Players will interact with things that are interesting.

Dungeon of the Mad Mage Delayed By One Week!

I suppose separate maps is about as close as we'll get to a boxed set of an adventure. I'd love a boxed set with maps and the adventure broken up into multiple softcover books. But, alas, that will never be.

    Hopefully simple Ritual Caster question

I don't believe so. I think you need some place to copy it from and clerics just know spells and don't have them written down (unless they make a scroll)

    Ideas for Improving Inspiration

I am so stealing "that's not how I remember it..." One thing I like about claiming inspiration and then requiring it be used on allies' rolls is it can help bring a PC group of random players together faster by encouraging interaction and players bringing out their characters' backgrounds. I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Carnufex

Yeah, that's why I don't think a carnufex would be CR7. It's not as big as a T-Rex, which is 40 feet long and 12 feet tall (and a real thing, so the comparison is probably easier). I think the giant ape is fairly tall as well considering its reach is 10 feet.

Ravnica Table of Contents & More

Since I know so little about Ravnica the high possibility that the setting will officially be left high and dry after one release means I have little incentive to buy this product. At least the 5e Eberron release can be paired with older products if I needed them.

    D&D 5E (2014) Carnufex

My only real objection is making it CR 7. The carnifex was about 10 feet long and 5 feet tall and I don't see that as a CR 7 creature.

D&D 5E (2014) My (Personal) Early Evaluation of the D&D 5thEd System – Wall of Text

    A) The game provides guidelines in 5e but it seems that in 3e there were such extensive examples and it didn't work as well as it was hoped. So they changed it. B) My experience, both in real life and online, is that your examples don't hold. Sorcerers are fantastic buffers with twin spell...

D&D 5E (2014) Shield Attacks and AC Bonus

Except you wouldn't have a free hand to load the hand crossbow.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E's "Missed Opportunities?"

No. We did have a halfling who never forgot to reroll his 1s. Him getting a 1 was a celebration. In fact, getting to reroll after the fact was what made the ability so fun similar to the PCs use of Inspiration. But, again, if the party of 6 could get Inspiration 20 times per 4 hour game session...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E's "Missed Opportunities?"

    1) Backgrounds are, well, backgrounds. I don't see why they should add a lot to a PC. That's what his class is for. Heck, the Background is more like the *second* background as his actual background is the part where he trained to be a 1st level PC. 2) Inspiration is something that many tables...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E's "Missed Opportunities?"

In games I have DMed the players (and I) so rarely remember we have it that allowing its use to be declared after the roll works fine by me. In your version, which I'd like to introduce because it encourages fun roleplaying, I'd have it used before the roll. The party can get more of them so...

D&D 5E (2014) Would Rogues be broken if Sneak Attack were always on?

It was never only once per round. I can think of circumstances where you could sneak attack up to four times in one round.

    "DnDSports": Competitive Play With Prizes

I've literally never heard anyone say this. Showing fictional poker games in movies and TV is a staple of (mostly western) movies. Shall I list all the movies that have poker games in them or will you just admit this is a stupid strawman you've constructed?
