WotC To Give Core D&D Mechanics To Community Via Creative Commons

Given an owlbear is in the new movie I think think the answer is "yes". It's all about $$$.

WotC Unveils Draft of New Open Gaming License

Under the new rules I can only use my stuff and Hasbro's stuff. I can't include someone else's stuff. It's an "Open" gaming license in name only. And the Hasbro stuff I can include is far smaller than in the past. It's a D&D Gaming License. There's nothing "Open" about it.

WotC Unveils Draft of New Open Gaming License

This highlights again what I and others have been saying. The real end game for Hasbro is digital. They have to destroy any VTT or digital competition and Hasbro really, really, really wants your $5/mo. I don't buy the part about having to deauthorize 1.0a to eliminate harmful content. That's...

WotC Talks OGL... Again! Draft Coming Jan 20th With Feedback Survey; v1 De-Auth Still On

This is silly. This isn't a negotiation where both sides willingly decided to negotiate. Hasbro made demands. The other side rejected them. Your post remind me of someone trying to convince someone else to go out with them and getting mad they won't say yes. 'No' is an acceptable response. 'No'...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you ACTUALLY use 3rd Party Books?

I did not pick these up until I bought them on ebay in 2015. All are excellent. "Resource" is the right word. Definitely the kind of thing you can grab, after reading it, to refresh your memory on an idea or item. I've handed the Arms and Equipment Guide to players and told them to get...

D&D 5E (2024) RPG Evolution: The Art of the Apology

A tip of the hat to @mykediemart for "That's what my character would do" and to @aco175 for making an apology via Hasbro products. Inspired and well-deserved mockery of Hasbro.

    D&D 5E (2014) Will you continue to give WotC D&D your $$$

I bought vast amounts of D&D stuff from 2015-2018 including loads of older TSR stuff from ebay, lots of DMs Guild pdf reprints of old stuff, new DMs Guild releases from 3rd parties, and a number of hard backs. In the last few years I, too, have become disenchanted. Not with D&D but with the...

D&D 5E (2014) So this is how D&D 5e dies, a beautiful start only to die in disgrace because of mismanagement. RIP 5e

It must be why they hired software executives. D&D-as-a-service.

Gizmodo Reveals OGL v1.1's 'Term Sheet' Carrots For Selected Publishers

And exactly why Hasbro hired two software executives. Hasbro hates PDFs and printed books. They want D&D-as-a-service you pay $5/mo for. When D&Done comes out it'll be $10/mo. DDB will receive new classes/feats/adventures in dribs and drabs to keep you paying. They'll be available months before...

D&D Beyond Cancellations Changed WotCs Plans

This is what I find baffling about deauthorizing OGL 1.0a. As long as OGL 1.0a is in effect D&D is what 3pp make supplements for. It largely strangles competitors. It ensures Roleplaying=D&D. Hasbro should consider that a HUGE win. License the snot out of D&D. Movies, action figures, Lego sets...

D&D Beyond Cancellations Changed WotCs Plans

So glad I was one of them. It was by far the fastest way voice displeasure and it hit them exactly in the one place they look to as their primary future income stream, DDB EDIT: And saying fans are "overreacting" is classic abuser behavior. First, they said that we didn't win, both sides won...

D&D 5E (2014) How will the recent OGL developments affect your D&D spending?

I didn't realize the Dragonlance book came out. I was actually interested in that after not buying a Hasbro D&D book for several years. Won't buy it now. Instead, I dropped $250 on Kobold Press stuff that I'd been meaning to get for the last year.

    D&D 5E (2014) Could D&D Die Again?

Hasbro goes all in on digital and screws that up in any number of ways. That's another option.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you ACTUALLY use 3rd Party Books?

More and more for 5e as time goes on. And also many non-5e compatible games. I haven't been impressed with WotC products for at least 4 years now so I've branched out to support a number of Kickstarter campaigns and other stuff. It's probably $1000 worth and Hasbro gets none of it.

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

What I get out of this is that Hasbro really, really, really wants our $5/mo forever for their digital platform. It's their new cash cow. The only real way to hurt Hasbro at this point is to unsubscribe/delete your DDB account.

D&D General Are You Seriously Planning to Stop Playing and/or Running D&D Over The Recent OGL Developments?

I won't stop playing but I will stop buying WotC product. WotC is doing this (especially the digital push) because they want money and more money. I won't be giving it to them. And because I'm petty I'll post images of receipts in replies to WotC on social media of all the money I'm spending on...

I deleted my DDB account. Don't have a subscription but it's the best I could do. I put in the comments I was deleting because of the potential OGL.

Rumours: WotC Announcement Today; Insider Email Reveals Plans

In a very literal sense the buck may actually stop with them. More like bucks stopping with them if enough people cancel their subscriptions and stop buying product.

Rumours: WotC Announcement Today; Insider Email Reveals Plans

"Under monetized" to me meant "we want $5/mo in subscription fees". The email may be fake but it rings true. I've tried to delete my DDB account entirely but I can't figure out how to email customer support to do so. EDIT: Never mind, I found where to email them. It was a non-paying account...
