    D&D General Neolithic D&D

Yup, that is what I see when I consider the medieval period. It is mostly social stuff that D&D does not really touch on and in so far as it does, the pc have a way more social cachet than they would likely have in a medieval setting outside the early period. That is 400 AD to 1000 AB before...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Beyond Article on Crafting

You would be surprised, there would I imagine, be a lot of crossover between cobblers and harness makers. Though both would have specialised tools not used by the other.

    D&D 4E D&D 4E Post-Mortem

From that list, I would argue that they have not really learned 5e either.

Dragonlance Chronicles Omnibus Coming February 2025

I think that he and many other would be better served by writing episodic novels in the setting. They can have an overall arc if they want but trying to construct multi-volume novels with dozens of characters is too much of an ask.

A remarkable dude none the less. YEs! fiction exaggerates but I do not believe I ever said otherwise. I certainly did not intend to imply otherwise.

    D&D 4E D&D 4E Post-Mortem

Well given the evidence as presented your group would be happy playing any given adventure or adventure path as written with minimal additions (only what is needed to bring them on track), easy combats and all. Would you be happy to run it? I think not and that is the crux of the matter.

    D&D 4E D&D 4E Post-Mortem

Is this what your players want or what you want to deliver. I think your players are fairly happy to walk over most combats but with the occasional nailbiter. 4e is the only system I have played that allows one to have good tactical combat in every fight without killing the party. There may be...

    D&D 4E D&D 4E Post-Mortem

If the players want hijinks, dungeon crawling and joke, then you have to give it to them or find different players. I think that many people here are very invested in the story/drama elements of D&D but in my experience a lot of players just want some action and fun time at the table and are...

    D&D General Neolithic D&D

I really do not know where you are going with this line of questioning. It seems like you are trying to set up a gotcha but I was genuinely curious. I do not know of any actual historical questing knights outside of the romances but what do I know. As for Bond, depends on whether one is talking...

    D&D General Neolithic D&D

I know that, I already said that, but I was asking are there any records of actual questing knights, aside from crusaders.

    D&D General Neolithic D&D

Yes and no, I think the cleric as conceived in D&D would be alien to a medieval audience. The paladin is based on a medieval literary trope but were there ever questing knights in the actual Middle Ages? outside of crusaders? Ya know if one wants to drop the cleric and paladin for a non medieval...

    D&D General Neolithic D&D

It is not about reskinning. There is nothing in the rules of D&D that is specifically medieval, outside some items in the arm and armour lists. There is nothing in core D&D that enforces medievalism and if there is could you point it out, please.

    D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Pitching the Reboot

I also think a lot of people use published settings like I do, I will use the maps, the locations, npc'd, and lore when I remember them but will change and ignore stuff and import locations and stuff from other setting as I feel the need. Official lore and contunity means nothing. It is a...

D&D General I'm a Creep, I'm a Powergamer: How Power Creep Inevitably Destroys Editions

great OP Snarf but I will disagree on that it is powercreep that kills editions. I think it is supplements that change or add rules. I did not buy AD&D 2e because there was powercreep in UA but because I walked into the shop and saw the PHB, MM, DMG, UA and a half dozen assorted player...

D&D 5E (2024) How many of you would implement the drop to 0 HP, get 1 level of exhaustion house rule?

That is a point of view but i think a lot more carrot than the puny healing currently in play. I reserve my future position until I can see the new rules and try them in play.

D&D 5E (2024) How many of you would implement the drop to 0 HP, get 1 level of exhaustion house rule?

At the moment the healing spells are so weak as to be worthless unless used to pop characters back up. That has a consequence that I, for one, as a DM am somewhat reluctant to target downed characters. If the healing could keep un with incoming damage, I think I would occasionally have the...

D&D 5E (2024) How many of you would implement the drop to 0 HP, get 1 level of exhaustion house rule?

Make healing a worthwhile action. At the moment the action economy is so strongly in favour or allowing the character to drop and pop them up.

D&D 5E (2024) How many of you would implement the drop to 0 HP, get 1 level of exhaustion house rule?

Agree with this, instead of more stick how about some carrot.

    D&D General Neolithic D&D

I would tend to agree, use a game more suited to the survival mode. There are plenty out there. Probably easier to bring in wanted elements if 5e to some of these games than to hack away bits of 5e.

Spells: do you prefer Rotes or Dynamic?

Dynamic can be a lot of fun and I will freely admit that I do not have a lot of experience in this type of game but it can be game breaking. It is asking a lot of the referee to keep up with party capability. Last dynamic system I played with was EN World's "Elements of Magic" in the 3.x era and...
