D&D 5E (2014) How Important is Stranger Things to the Success of 5e

I voted (2) important role in the popularity of 5E. It is not the most important but it is a constant reminder of D&Ds existence and nearly 50 years of play. It is the best and biggest advertising WotC has received for the game and they get it for free. Critical Role and Dimension20 have helped...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond Previews Flying Pigs, Space Hamsters, And More!

I most likely will not be using Space Clowns in a game, at least the Space Clowns as presented by Chris 'Whimsy' Perkins. (Not to slag on Chris, I have huge respect and admiration for his work. Between the rollout of Wild Beyond the Witchlight and Spelljammer, I have heard the word 'whimsy' more...

    D&D 5E (2014) Who Are the Thri-Kreen?

Astral Elven Empire, Neogi, Illithid, the Arcane, Space Clowns, and Scro/Goblin Hegemony Reborn Just to name a few. Whoops forgot about clockwork horrors, mechanical space locusts...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond Previews Flying Pigs, Space Hamsters, And More!

I ran a 'serious' Spelljammer campaign rebelling against the Imperial Elves and I ran a completely absurd Tinker gnome, giant space hamster, pig-riding ultracapitalist penguins version trying to steal the Spelljammer. Both are valid. Both are fun. I am enjoying Wildspace being an ecosystem. It...

Spelljammer Space Clowns Are A Thing In Spelljammer

They are playing up the absurd with Space Clowns but disguised fiends traveling the multiverse giving ironic punishment to people is kind of cool. Gen X is a bit of a crossroads with clowns. I remember clowns at events, clown camp for kids, and clown birthday parties as a kid. I also remember...

Spelljammer Dark Sun confirmed? Or, the mysterious case of the dissappearing Spelljammer article...

That is an interesting fiction. The reason they tried 3 different systems of psionic rules was because the fans DO want psionics, they just didn't want the ways WotC implemented. You don't have 3 UA's for psionics because no one wants it. You have 3 weak attempts with no iterative design before...

Spelljammer Dark Sun confirmed? Or, the mysterious case of the dissappearing Spelljammer article...

I, personally, would prefer a new system for psionics. Crawford has never been interested in psionics for D&D. That is not a slam, it is a legitimate preference. To me, spell slots are one of the most boring concepts for a magic system imaginable, but it is what magic is in D&D. It is why the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Lore books for 5e that I would actually buy

Attention Shoppers, there is a Blue Skin Special in the Housewares aisle.

D&D General All Basic, B/X and BECMI and Rules Cyclopedia set sales, from Ben Riggs.

The '84 drop-off is because big box stores stopped carrying D&D. They didn't reorder and sold out of their existing stock. The economy was rough, so there was less disposable income. I think the edition changes confused retailers more than players. Do they stock AD&D books? Or the much more...

Spelljammer Dark Sun confirmed? Or, the mysterious case of the dissappearing Spelljammer article...

So let's boil down Athas to the bare bones of the setting. Athas is a world in its death throes. Magic is fueled by life energy and is feared and despised by the populace. There are City-States ruled by powerful magic wielders who war with each other. There is a limited amount of metal. The...

Spelljammer Dark Sun confirmed? Or, the mysterious case of the dissappearing Spelljammer article...

You fly your fleet of spelljamming ships into Doomspace and immediately all your air goes to fouled (poisonous). The Living Flag Ship of the expedition, commanded by Entmaster Duravale begins to shrivel as all the ships return to jamming speed after slowing when crossing the system border...

Spelljammer Hadozee: You got Starfrontiers in my Spelljammer!

They mention Hadozee traveling to Krynn in the D&D Beyond clip but don't mention the 'Shadow People' by name.

D&D General As of 1998, 4,007,685 people played AD&D in the US, as estimated by Ben Riggs.

This one is a kind of useless conjecture. The walls between BECMI, AD&D, and 2e were more of a curb than a wall. I imagine many more played D&D of some kind, if only for a time or two. Ryan Dancey's estimate range of 8-11 million seems too high but 4 million seems to be missing some data points...

Spelljammer Hadozee: You got Starfrontiers in my Spelljammer!

I would like to also see a variety of 'fur' styles, like human hairstyles as well. I like the 3E hadozee artwork along with the 5E and Starfrontiers. I love the concept of Grodd, Gorilla City and the Ultrahumanite style characters.

Spelljammer Hadozee: You got Starfrontiers in my Spelljammer!

I would prefer if the Hadozee art leaned more heavily into the Planet of the Apes aesthetic with chimp, orangutan, and mountain gorilla-type builds and fur. I never thought of Yazirians as ape-like, I too thought they were bat people. I like this mini though. Hadozee

    D&D Movie/TV Check Out The D&D Movie's Cast -- In Costume!

Like I said the producer and the directors don't seem to be too worried about a suit and continue to advertise for Critical Role with every press junket. I doubt this was a surprise to Mercer and Co. either. There are rumors of CR cameos in the film.

D&D General Rockseer elves, why they weren't carried forward?

I like them, but really they are in a crowded design space. They are so different from other elves, they might as well not be elves. They are super tall, don't worship Corellon, and are connected with the earth and stone. Why not replace them with super xenophobic/isolationist Earth Genasi or...
