D&D General One Piece of Art V (Places)- What Piece of D&D Art Inspired You to Love a Place

Sadly I can not decide between two pieces of art. I must break the sacred rule. Snarf, I cry your pardon. City feel Both of these formed what fantasy cities are in my settings.

Spelljammer Spelljammer: Adventures in Space Review

So what is there is good, but not near enough of it? I was worried when they announced the three 64-page hardcovers that there would not be enough space to flesh out all the concepts of Spelljammer. I believe they tried to use the art in lieu of exposition. It works for some things, but not...

D&D 5E (2024) Dungeons and Dragons future? Ray Winninger gives a nod to Mike Shea's proposed changes.

5E can support a lot more rules and system diversity than we have seen to date. I hope the Anniversary edition will provide a nice stable platform to expand to new magic systems and different avenues of play in post-2024 releases. Fold in the design principles in the later splats to the core...

Spelljammer Why is the upcoming Spelljammer book worth getting excited about?

This version of Spelljammer is leaning a lot more into the sci-fi influences than the previous, but it is still D&D in Space. The biggest draw of Spelljammer is its expansiveness. You can have cohesive adventures that explore many different cultures and styles without seeming a kitchen sink or...

D&D General One Piece of Art IV (Races)- What D&D Art Inspired You to Love a Race (Lineage, Ancestry)

As a wee tyke, I came across the Jeff Dee illustration of Phoebus, a human fighter reincarnated as a lizard man in the Rogues Gallery. I was determined to play a lizardman character. So Semris, the lizardman assassin was born in ~1984. I have loved Lizardmen since the heady days of dying to...

    D&D 5E (2024) August 18th Tarrasque-sized D&D News (Poll)

VTT announcement but no beta, just alpha footage. New MtG setting for both MtG and 5E to release simultaneously. An RTS game for Dragonlance to spin off from the board game battle system. Teasers for a previous D&D setting (May it be Greyhawk to appease Snarf and prevent his horrible wrath)...

D&D General One Piece of Art II (Monsters)- What D&D Art Inspired You to Love a Monster?

I do love this and it forever cemented my idea that giant spiders were furry jumping spiders rather than web-making sleek orb weavers.

Spelljammer Spelljammer Shows Up In The Wild - Check Out The Tables of Contents

WotC can release a Psion wizard subclass with a custom 'psionic' spell list and a few ribbon abilities. There will be no 'psionic system' for 5E from WotC. I agree with @delericho Defiling should be a constant temptation, if not the default state of arcane magic. I hate the idea of automatic...

D&D General One Piece of Art II (Monsters)- What D&D Art Inspired You to Love a Monster?

I know I am not a smart man, but there has been a slip up here and there. I have lots of arts I like too.

Spelljammer Spelljammer Shows Up In The Wild - Check Out The Tables of Contents

I think he was being a bit acerbic about how we have tangented well and away from the purpose of the thread which is Spelljammer to discuss the merits of Dark Sun based on Athas-esque elements in a Spelljammer adventure... But yes, WotC has not ruined our childhood(young adulthood?) with this...

D&D General One Piece of Art II (Monsters)- What D&D Art Inspired You to Love a Monster?

Artist: Jim Holloway Source: Dragon Magazine #127 Monster: Orc Long before Warcraft, this was my perception of orcs, fighting to the last for their honor and standard. Sidenote, this is the Dragon where Tucker's Kobolds premiered in the editorial.

Spelljammer Spelljammer Shows Up In The Wild - Check Out The Tables of Contents

We need to stop thinking that 'pissing off Dark Sun fans' is a threat to future sales. There are very few 'Dark Sun purist fans' in proportion to the player base. Doomspace is a sample of the process of rethinking DS for 5E. It might not be where DS winds up, but it obviously had work put into...

Spelljammer Spelljammer Shows Up In The Wild - Check Out The Tables of Contents

I thought that, but the Athasspace ballyhoo, the psionics, the term defiler, and the Athas name for lizardfolk are all very Dark Sun related. It would be tone deaf of WotC to change the name Athasspace to Doomspace but leave Defiler when it doesn't cast an arcane spell. We shall see

Spelljammer Spelljammer Shows Up In The Wild - Check Out The Tables of Contents

Hmm, the Defiling in the stat block is a nice monster ability. It has nothing to do with defiler casting for Dark Sun except to show that defiling may affect all living materials not just plant life. I am fine with that change, but I do not see the correlation with increased spell power. Just...

D&D General One Piece of Art- What D&D Art Inspired You to Love a Class?

Before I read the stories a piece of art encouraged the basis for many characters, thieves and rogues all.
