D&D 5E (2014) Fudging: DM vs player preferences

But changing a crit to a normal hit on the first attack roll against a new player's first-level PC is something you would always disagree with? What I'm saying is, you seem to think all in-combat fudges are at the PC's expense, re: All of your examples are from a put-upon PC whose DM has...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want your DM to fudge?

I've known the players my main group for thirty years. There isn't much more we need to say to one-other about how the various campaigns are run. :) Since we're all still sitting round the table after three decades, it seems we're happy with the situation. To your question, I always have a...

D&D 5E (2014) Fudging: DM vs player preferences

I don't understand why you automatically equate "fudging" with something that happens at the party's expense, i.e. the DM doesn't "fudge" social interaction because party success is in his interests.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want your DM to fudge?

I fudge dice *only* to the benefit of the group. That's a cast iron DM guarantee.

I agree. The store-front could use a way to filter products by type.

Will the now-open Adventurer's League stuff scratch that itch for you? It does for me.

Nope, no problem at all! GLHF!

    D&D 5E (2014) Automatic random encounters

Resource attrition is a nice idea, as long as your players buy into it. Skill challenges seem tailor-made for it. My advice on random encounters is not to make them so random and meaningless as to be mere time-sinks. I actually like rolling on random encounter tables, but I prefer them to be...

    D&D 5E (2014) Could Paizo go 5e?

I long ago gave up trying to predict Paizo's customers, but no, I don't see this happening. A PF2 is the most logical next step for them. Maybe split their setting into a system-agnostic gazetteer and a rules supplement, so 5E players can adventure in Golarion if they want? Who knows.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want your DM to fudge?

Our approaches to DM'ing don't align very often, but I must admit, I'm starting to see the sense in doing this...at the start of an encounter, at least.

Awesome! Why not? Transparency to the players?

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want your DM to fudge?

Is your issue with fudging a philosophical one? I.e. just don't roll that die if you're predetermined that you're not going to hit? I ask because deciding beforehand that capture, not death, is the consequence of a TPK in that encounter kinda seems like fudging by the back door. Are the stakes...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want your DM to fudge?

I'll go with "Almost never", which is about the same amount of time I fudge as a DM, and I would want him/her to do it for the same reasons. I'm not going to crit a first-time player and wipe their PC out in the first combat of their first game. I don't really care how "undercut" the other PC's...

The Entire D&D 5E SRD Is Now On FANTASY GROUNDS

That's absolutely terrific. I have always wanted to use FG as my reference for prep when I'm away from my books, but couldn't justify paying for the MM for that reason alone. Now I get that functionality for free (or, most of it). Happy camper. :) To those who already bought the core books...

    Online D&D games?

Interesting. I've done text in many PBEM's but it never occurred to me to try a real-time chat game.

    Online D&D games?

I've found online D&D to be amazingly close to the table-top experience, as long as video chat is a part of it and technical foul-ups and/or dodgy internet connections don't get in the way. Just remember to give some space to the other players and (mos importantly) the DM -- it can get messy if...

    D&D 5E (2014) Challenge Levels (Deadly Question)

True, but the tables are an essential place to start! And this is absolutely true. 5E is pitched on the easy side for my group, freeing me to design encounters that are much more difficult than the norm. But, I still needed "the norm" to know where to start.
