    D&D 5E (2014) Why traps in D&D usually suck

Everyone I've played with, and I mean everyone, would disagree with this statement.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why traps in D&D usually suck

In this thread, Saelorn has informed me that the player doesn't exist, and iserith has informed me that the character isn't real. Should I now panic, existentially speaking?

    D&D 5E (2014) Monster Manual 2

Welcome to the board! No announcements of MM2 from WotC as of yet, but there are third party, 5E-compatible products either out or on the way. For example: Tome of Beasts

    D&D 5E (2014) Invisibility and Perception

I'm dissatisfied with 5E's implementation of invisibility as well, but the fact is, if you're invisible, you can't be seen. In the vast majority of common sense, DM-adjudicated scenarios, that's going to be a huge benefit. I would feel like bonking on the head any DM who tried to tell me that...

    D&D 5E (2014) How Much D&D is To Much?

If you have that much leisure time, then whether you fill it with reams of D&D, or other pursuits, matters only if it leads to burn-out. If you *don't* have that much leisure time, and you're way over-budget on D&D, it's time to scale back...but then that would apply to anything! So the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Examples of a Strength Saving Throw

The tricky thing is differentiating between Strength checks and Strength saving throws. Some of the examples above I would classify as a check, whereas a save should be unexpected and instantaneous, IMO, e.g.: holding on to a cliff-face when the path crumbles from under you, or staying on your...

D&D 5E (2014) Along the lines of another post: What player RACES would you like to see added to 5e?

Maybe a goblinoid or two, but I don't feel that there are any holes to fill, to be honest.

D&D 5E (2014) Adventure Design: Backstory and History

No, I don't particularly like that approach. I think it imparts the warm and fuzzies when you're reading through the adventure, but actually executing on such detail while the game is running is incredibly difficult. Well, at least, I don't seem to have the faculties for it. Inevitably I then...

D&D 5E (2014) Player challange Vs Character challange (Metagaming)

Oooh-kay. I think this thread is in danger of pushing my buttons, so agree to disagree etc.

D&D 5E (2014) Player challange Vs Character challange (Metagaming)

I honestly don't know how the example of breaking down a door in any way suggests going "heavy roll-play".

D&D 5E (2014) Player challange Vs Character challange (Metagaming)

Then you're saying everything is player challenge because it all stems from them sitting down at the table to play D&D?

D&D 5E (2014) Player challange Vs Character challange (Metagaming)

"You want to break through the door? Make an Athletics check." That is a character challenge, unless you consider rolling a d20 to be challenging for the player! I'm all for getting our definitions right, but really guys?

D&D 5E (2014) Enforcing theme/structure by saying NO to players

There's always the chance that it's the exception that shines the strongest light on the campaign themes, but it's a slim one. You can't blame players for immediately seeing the interest in being the one drow that can walk in daylight, or the one gully dwarf with enough intelligence to remember...

D&D 5E (2014) Are players always entitled to see their own rolls?

I might go one better and say that it's a pillar of the game...at least as far as the DM/player relationship goes. It's the questions, the mysteries, and the motives that drive the drama. I'll never enjoy a module or adventure more than the first time I play it.

D&D 5E (2014) [Poll for the front page] Nominate your ONE favourite thing about D&D 5E

Probably the dullest answer, but for me it's the best innovation in the game: Advantage/Disadvantage

D&D 5E (2014) Are players always entitled to see their own rolls?

This seems pretty easy to me. I'm a bit taken back by some of the extreme reactions in this thread. I checked with my players before the current campaign started, and I now roll behind the screen on most occasions when the PC's cannot be absolutely sure of an outcome. "Best you can tell, he...

D&D 5E (2014) I don't actually get the opposition for the warlord... or rather the opposition to the concept.

You are lighting the blue touchpaper connected to the shaped charge at the heart of a nuclear bomb. The argument basically boils down to what Hit Points are intended to be, vs. what people interpret them as being, vs. what people thought they were 30 years ago, vs. what people think they should...
