    D&D 5E (2014) Who wrote these CRs?

I gotta go with Imaculata here. Yes, in a system with so many variables and such a wide spectrum of players, it is practically impossible to devise a system that accurately predicts the nature and outcome of any single fight. The CR system, loose and hinky as it might be, does an adequate job...

    D&D 5E (2014) Variant Encumbrance and Monsters

If you can afford the extra effort, I think the players will appreciate seeing their own hardships reflected in their foes, absolutely.

    D&D 5E (2014) Who wrote these CRs?

We have way too little information to know whether the encounter was as broken as you say. A CR is only as relevant as the party composition, their remaining resources, and the experience of the players allow. Top-end MMO content is stratified, a D&D monster isn't; that's where the game has to...

    D&D 5E (2014) in search of inspiration

The old "scales of justice" quandary? Letter of the law vs. spirit of the law.

    D&D 5E (2014) I played Rise of Tiamat in 24 hours straight...

I've done a couple of 24-hour marathons, often with hilarious results (like the time I fell asleep on the toilet and everyone was too tired to even notice). I really enjoyed your blog. :)

D&D 5E (2014) All of the Adventures at once! (Combining the Hoard, Princes, and Abyss in one campaign)

It's in the nature of the books (especially PotA) that you can pull sections out and use them ad-hoc. They've got that going for them. But a true Tiamat/Princes/Demons crossover with all of the various meta-plots interacting? That'd be Realms-shattering. I say put your head down and charge right...

FANTASY GROUNDS Goes 3D With TABLETOP CONNECT

I really can't see this happening, not if they want to continue to align their releases with WotC's. Happy to be wrong, though.

    D&D 5E (2014) Confession: I Sometimes Miss Vancian Casting

This is one of the truest things. It's important for the DM to be enjoying himself, of course, but I've been surprised by how much fun my players tell they had in sessions that I thought were utter cluster-thingummies.

    D&D 5E (2014) in search of inspiration

Yup, this is what I was going to post. Also, don't limit yourself to the 5E MM! If you have an archive of earlier books, you have a gold mine of ideas.

    D&D 5E (2014) Confession: I Sometimes Miss Vancian Casting

I was never a fan, but I understand the design constraints that make prepared casting such an enduring feature of the game. 5E casting is a very cool extension of the old ways, and I enjoy it a lot.

    D&D 5E (2014) Adventures not Adventure Paths

I like AP's as a foundation for what will inevitably become a published/homebrew hybrid. As soon as I start working in the PC's back-stories, the material in the adventure often gets distorted or changed as needs arise. The modern, 5E AP is also a fantastic repository of raw material. I bought...

D&D 5E (2014) How dangerous are your wildnernesses?

I went for Moderate, but my players know me well enough by now that they will expect to run into things they really should just hide from. I have no interest in catching them out, though, so such things are usually well-telegraphed. Also, the difficulty of any wilderness is proportional to the...

    D&D 5E (2014) How does one publish an adventure/quest?

I am not a lawyer, an expert, or anything in between. No-one can talk in specifics because the only way to talk in specifics would be to have a 5E open license to refer to. That said, I can give you some opinions. No. If you posted the complete contents of the Monster Manual on your web site...
