D&D General Official Lego Set for Dungeons & Dragons Coming Soon

The new Lego space sets also have that white/orange vibe. Very cool!

D&D General Official Lego Set for Dungeons & Dragons Coming Soon

Anecdotally, I kept all my sets intact and boxed, with no pressure to do so other than I was constantly breaking things down in order to remake them. I know they were complete, because I verified and sold a bunch of my old '80's Lego last year after recovering it from my mum's attic. :)

D&D General Official Lego Set for Dungeons & Dragons Coming Soon

I agree on your general points. A lot of Lego is now aimed at the nostalgia/collector market. The huge boxes have huge price tags. I'm lucky enough to be able to afford them once in a while. Spending a few hours with a complex build is a joy, and they're great display pieces for showing off your...

D&D General Official Lego Set for Dungeons & Dragons Coming Soon

This doesn't look like my kind of build, and the cost is about what I'd expect. The cost of Lego, for me, is what I pay on the day less what I'll get for it on eBay about a year later, when the set has had its time in the sun and needs to make way for something new. Lego keeps its value...

D&D 5E (2024) Out with the old, in with the new?

I'll experiment with the hard reset, because September should coincide nicely with the end of a very long campaign, and it makes sense to dive into the revised rules with the next one. But I'm not committed to it. If my players want to picn'n'mix, I'll be fine with it.

    D&D 5E (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

Except it can render threads like this nonsensical, where those posters are posting heavily and triggering others to respond. :(

    D&D General Defining Story

When I say "mystery" in D&D, I'm not talking about who killed the butler (well, sometimes...), I'm talking about why everyone in Silverymoon has disappeared, or why Waterdeep has been ripped out of the earth and sent into the sky, or why the Sword Coast has collapsed into the Underdark. The...

    D&D General Defining Story

I said "experience". There are things I can do from behind the screen that simply can't be done by the players, no matter how good they are. If they turn up with their two pages of backstory, character concepts, and in-party connections, in my view they're striking a bargain with me, and that...

    D&D General Defining Story

I thought that was the whole premise of this thread--defining story. Anyway, if we're reducing to the point that any sequence of events qualifies as a story, then how can anyone disagree with you? But I don't define story as a random series of events. I got up, put on my shoes, ate a bowl of...

    D&D General Defining Story

I mean, I probably could, some of the time. When you describe zigging instead of zagging, or a pushover boss fight, you're describing a series of events, not a story (well, not necessarily a good one). I run primarily narrative mystery-box campaigns, and I can still have those moments. Remember...

D&D General Resolution Games and Wizards of the Coast Announce the First Official D&D Virtual Reality Game

It's basically a virtualised, co-operative miniatures skirmish game. The 'table' is manifested in virtual space and you interact with it as if with a table full of miniatures, using cards to activate abilities, kill foes, interact with the environment, etc. The simulation handles line of sight...

Demeo is a stunner. With a D&D skin, it's a must buy for me.

    D&D 5E (2014) The popularity of horror adventures/settings for 5e

D&D is a solid platform for any genre but it can only do so much. My longest running campaign has had everything: fantasy, horror, pseudo-sci fi, gumshow detective work, intrigue. It works because it's a melting pot. Only the fantasy monster bashing/dice chucking genre really stands up to...

D&D General 7 Golden Rules of Dungeon Master Etiquette

D&D General "I'd like to run (or play in) an all ___________ campaign." (+)

An oft-mooted "dog-mounted halfling paladin" party. For years this has been joked about. No idea where it came from.

    D&D 5E (2014) Poignant D&D Moments

Lovely story. :) I've often said roleplaying is a game of moments. I've had many unexpectedly emotional dialogues over the top of the screen, where a PC or NPC's plight has suddenly touched a nerve with one or other party.

D&D General Why Is D&D Successful?

And you can imagine the obvious counterpoint to this. I wouldn't call 5E "elegant". It works, and I have multiple addicted friends, for many of whom 5E is their first RPG. Like your assessment of 4E, it has elegant pieces. But it turns out a system doesn't have to be elegant for me to love it.

D&D 5E (2014) Space, squares and reach with 3D combat

For me, the answer to this post is "yes". These are all safe, intuitive judgements that can greatly improve a combat. To your last question, I would grant cover, not disadvantage. Verticality can be a massive bind. We tend to heavily abstract the third dimension. This causes the odd, brief...

D&D General Why Is D&D Successful?

Since my experience differs, I'm genuinely interested in what a brand new player would run afoul of that they wouldn't in other systems. Do you mean brand spanking new to RPG's, or a more experienced player coming into 5E?

    D&D 5E (2014) Active Perception Check: 5e and Me

You have my utmost respect for such a heartfelt post. You're right in that your 5E experience (as I've understood it from reading your posts here) differs drastically from mine. I find the system fun, fast, and flexible in the style of the D&D I remember from my youth, but I've also found you...
