D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

Hmm, my feeling is you'd be surprised how much takes place online, especially since COVID and the potential inertia of getting groups back around the table who have discovered that (IMO) the game works perfectly well with a VTT or on the end of a Skype call. I'd guess more than that.

D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

@Ruin Explorer is right to be skeptical but they have taken an extreme position that perhaps isn't justified given where we are today. I'm in the business and while I can see the complexities of a VTT as they pertain to a AAA game, I think there's a good chance that in two years we'll see an...

RPG Evolution - True Tales from Stranger Things: The Satanic Panic Comes to School

As a UK D&D'er at the time (early-mid '80's), I wasn't exposed to any D&D prejudice except to have to wielded against me as a bullying tool by other kids. Even that was pretty tame. I've gathered in the interim that the Satanic Panic did bleed over into the UK in some minor form, but I never...

D&D 5E (2014) Considering Bigby's Big Book of Giants: How much use did you get out of Fizban's Big Book of Dragons?

Fizban's isn't the equal of the Draconomicon, I completely agree. It is a good book, though, and I poured a lot of content from it into some recent campaign prep (dragonflesh grafters, a white dagon lair, some other random monsters). I'd need to build a dragon-focused campaign to get absolute...

Dragonlance Do you plan to buy Dragonlance?

Yup. I have every edition published until now, so why wouldn't I? I'm confident I can mustre some of my old Dragonlance players back to the table as well.

D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

DNDB's model is more interesting because the money you spend on this, that, or the other from a sourcebook is then subtracted from the price of buying the whole book. Plus, when the only part of a sourcebook I'm interested in is the monsters, I don't have to fork out for the whole thing. I have...

D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

You may as well pack your bags Ruin, because it will happen. Unless Wizards dramatically change their stance on the value proposition between published and digital material, the VTT will be an entirely separate marketplace, much like DNDB is (for the most part) now. Hence my subsequent...

D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

That VTT looked gorgeous. I think a few things are easy/fun to predict: The VTT will be intrinsically tied to DNDB and require a subscription. The top-level DM tier subscription will permit you to share a VTT and its content with a group, much like you can now with DNDB content. Wizards will...

    D&D 5E (2024) Digital Only Edition

This is exactly the model I'm thinking of when I say "value for money". There are caveats--the quality, for example, of many 4E books was low compared to 5E--but the DDI tool-set and having the entire game at my fingertips was amazing. All that said, even though I really liked the edition and...

As long as a subscription was value for money, I would be happy to do it.

D&D General "I have Played in or Run a Campaign Set in the Forgotten Realms" (a poll)

I default to Forgotten Realms as the deep-pan base for whatever toppings my homebrew requires.

    D&D General "I have had a 'D&D Hangover'" (a poll)

I have had a next day hangover due to both exhaustion (a full day of being 'on', especially in RP-heavy campaigns) and due to the aftermath of pure joy at a session gone great. As DM's, that latter is what we're all chasing, right?

D&D 5E (2014) Has D&D spoiled you on other RPGs?

This is hard to answer objectively. I played D&D for a decade before venturing into other games at university. I will say it's very hard for any other system to make a serious impression on me. I've played my fair share and greatly enjoyed many of them (the recent Free League Alien RPG is a good...

D&D 5E (2024) Rogues and sneak attacks... Must all rogues have it?

Sure, but you have a whole party. Between the 4/5/6 whatever of you, you should have most or everything covered.

D&D 5E (2014) "I Have Grandfathered or Incorporated Rules/Features from Previous Editions of D&D into my 5E campaigns." (a poll)

Bloodied. Not in the 4E sense where it has mechanical import, but it's a nice flag to put up for players to know when dangerous creatures are on the road to defeat.
