D&D General Erol Otus has a store!

I have that issue of Dragon and always loved the cover (and remember seeing it for the first time). Now a poster! The t-shirts are really great. Just looking forward to more amazing stuff.

TSR Looking for information on the TSR side on an apocryphal story

There are so many stories like this, which are true. Warhammer is a direct descendent of TSR UK, would not be surprised if something like that happened in Japan.

    D&D 5E (2024) New Survey Results | Druid & Paladin | Unearthed Arcana | D&D

These threads always make me think 1) thank goodness for the surveys and the process and 2) this all about trying to reach that broad audience and not cater to any particular taste--thank goodness!

Why do nerds love East Asia so much?

Kurosawa films. Arcade video games. Shogun book/TV series. Domo arigato mr roboto. General smartness. But now the least nerdy are filling tiktok (east asian) with kpop (east asian). How do the nerds distinguish themselves?

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

Taking the above graph, for most of that time, the PHB was the only rules book. XGtE came out at the end of 2017 (Tasha's at the end of 2020). Now it seems like there is a lot of criticism of its content, and desire to use outside options, but it was good enough for a long time!

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

The original is from the second page of this thread: https://www.enworld.org/threads/dmg-phb-and-mm-still-in-the-amazon-top-100-sellers.403211/ When I could still use the wayback machine to scrape past amazon ratings. (I wonder if me doing that led amazon to put the blocking bot on it)...

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

I came across this post by chance, and thought I would link it here: https://www.enworld.org/threads/4-years-of-5e-on-amazon-same-old-same-old.651747/#post-7464469 PHB is actually looking pretty good, with a gentle drift downward over the last five years. (That post is also pre-pandemic)

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

You mean D&D beyond? It’s been sold through VTTs for a while now. Which makes these numbers all the more amazing…but you can only stay at the summit for so long.

    Best Virtual Tabletop

Roll20 is good as it can just do that. You can take a capture from a PDF or take a picture and upload it as a map or handout. Pull pics of the internet for tokens. Grid is there, fog of war is there. Dice roller and chat is there. You can track conditions and HP on tokens. If you want things...

    D&D 5E (2024) Rest Variants (DMG pg. 267)

I have been tinkering with the rest problem since 4e. What I introduced then and still use a variant of is restiness. To fully benefit from a long rest, you must be somewhere "resty". Eventually, haven rules from 3rd parties would come along with the same idea. If not in a resty area, there is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Enter the shadow demons

These seem really annoying, so I am going to unleash them on my players. (Also fits the encounter thematically, but that is just a bonus). Curious about any experience in actual play. They seem very powerful, at least until someone breaks out the light cantrip. Or maybe a torch.

    D&D 5E (2024) Warlock cantrips

Warlocks not being able to choose warlock spells, wizards not being able to choose wizard spells and so on will be an endless font of confusion.

D&D 5E (2024) Do you actually like weapon masteries?

I realized they are doing three overlapping jobs: -give a power up to fighters (mostly) -further distinguish weapons from one another -create a system of martial maneuvers /cantrips For example, you could just reintroduce weapon specialization and give say a +2 to hit and damage for the...

D&D 5E (2024) The new spell creation rules

All I can say is wizard-love.It may need some work, but someone there loves the wizard...(I guess it is they of the coast)... ...and the paladin, and thinks barbarians are cool, clerics are OK, and pities the sorcerer and ranger (how could you not) and tolerates the bard and rogue. Leaving 3...

    D&D 5E (2024) We don't talk about Barbie

The barbarian was a good (the best?) non-caster. Now just better, especially Frenzy, and without messing with the feel of the class (unlike some others that have their own threads right now).

    D&D 5E (2024) Will Pact Magic survive?

So, still similar to the 1 cleric. But wrong were it counts. I do wonder what the reaction will be.

    D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Overly Complex

The creeping is there. The simple champion makes the following additional choices: feat at first level. weapons to master at first level (and these can be changed). bonus proficiency at 3rd level (and this can be changed). There are additional weapon mastery choices at higher levels. 2nd wind...

D&D 5E (2014) Lore & Legends Is An Official Visual Guide to D&D 5th Edition

Right, they did the book they would normally do now--and it was awesome--so the focus had to switch. OK. The 30th anniversary book is not quite A&A, but is also pretty frank--yes, there was power creep for 2e, and in fact its almost inevitable as a way to sell supplements. 20th (or 25th?)...
