Paizo News: More Starfinder Enhanced Spoilers and Mechageddon

It would be nice if you could get the adventure without the rules part - I am a fan of mecha, but not a fan of Starfinder. Depending on how much of the book is rules, I may still get it. But my table are not great friends of mecha , so perhaps not. :(

D&D General Some Interesting Stats About D&D Players!

Likely they just call everyone born before (whatever relevant date) Gen-X.

D&D General If A Noble holds 1 title per country in 2 neighbouring countries what can he do if those countries go to war?, after all no matter what he lose's

True 3-way wars are extremely rare. What does happen is that when two countries are at war, a third party starts raiding the rear territories of one of them, without being allied with the other. In many of Austria's wars, their nominal vassals in Transylvania would threaten raids and either...

D&D General If A Noble holds 1 title per country in 2 neighbouring countries what can he do if those countries go to war?, after all no matter what he lose's

I think all 4 are very risky - sometimes there just is no safe choice. It is a bit like the prisoner's dilemma, actually. 1 is pretty safe. Whoever wins will punish you, but not severely. Guaranteed loss, but small loss. I would recommend playing dumb. Perhaps pretend to be ill or go on a...

D&D General If A Noble holds 1 title per country in 2 neighbouring countries what can he do if those countries go to war?, after all no matter what he lose's

Dumas uses this theme in the Three Musketeers. One of the musketeers' servants explains his background, his father was a zealot for both the Huguenots (protestants) and Catholics. Whenever he met a Catholic on the road, he was a zealot Huguenot and robbed the man, and vice-verso.

D&D General Let us share our Elves and Orcs

My orcs are sort of Goliaths in origin - as the lizardfolk made giants less and less inherently magical (and thus better at learned magic), one of the steps on that evolution was orcs, after dwarves but before humans.

D&D General Let us share our Elves and Orcs

This is how subcategories of elf and hob work in my game. If you are born and raised by wood elves, you are likely to be a wood elf yourself, but it is not a given. And some elves are born to human with no apparent parental link, just from ambient magic. Its more of magic contagion/adaption than...

D&D General In D&D, the Big Bad is the Main Character

Work for him? :) Actually, that is how my players reacted in Skull & Shackles. So the captain /(and supposed antagonist) is a murderous tyrant pirate? Well, we are level 1 and aspire to be pirates. :) So in that case they weren't even reactive, they were followers.

D&D General In D&D, the Big Bad is the Main Character

This was a joke. Trying to change the world back to an earlier pristine state is actually to change the world. And since there really is no way back, the "restoration" is still a new state. Thus the NEW republic.

D&D General In D&D, the Big Bad is the Main Character

How did this work out? I've tried this too, but the players rarely bite or formulate a goal to acts towards. When they do, the golas are usually nebulous, such as "promote the arts" rather than "turn that mountain into a sculpture and animate it". I'd say the heroes of Star Wars are reactionary...

D&D 5E (2014) How were the "Sane Magic Item Prices" arrived at?

The reason I have magic items for sale is that my version of the World of Greyhawk is the opposite of a points of light setting. The trade is booming, magic is increasing both in raw power (available mana), the number of practitioners, and in the styles of magic available. Yes, there are...

D&D General In D&D, the Big Bad is the Main Character

Just as in most action movies, the villain is the guy that actually wants to DO something, to change the world. The heroes are usually just kneejerk conservatives who try to preserve the status quo.

D&D 5E (2014) How were the "Sane Magic Item Prices" arrived at?

My answer: Keoghtom's Ointment replicates one of two 2nd level spells, upcast Cure Wounds and Lesser Restoration. Anyone can use it. So I'd say the cost should be about three times that of a 2nd level scroll, which by SMIP is 120 gp. Final price is 360 gp. A set of three might go for a round...

D&D 5E (2014) How were the "Sane Magic Item Prices" arrived at?

In my reading, "rarity" doesn't really reflect rarity at all, it reflects supposed power level and the character level where it can be expected to appear. Common items at level 1-4, uncommon at 5-9, rare at 10-14, very rate at 15-20. The pricing rules in the DMG are based on the idea that you...

D&D General Let us share our Elves and Orcs

They do, but considering their teen risk-taking tendencies, the prejudices against them, and the fact that the events that created most of them (The Greyhawk Wars) are only 70 years in the past, no-one in the setting realizes this.

D&D General Let us share our Elves and Orcs

Note that calling Genies and Tieflings elves doesn't really make any difference in the game. The humanoid elemental PC options do look like elves rather than how they ordinarily look, but the Tieflings and Genies remain as they are, they just have a kinship with elves in the narrative.

D&D General Let us share our Elves and Orcs

I don't know if this will ever happen, but I have a distant goal of bringing this campaign into baroque and later even steampunk. And this description of orcs is basically a Victorian racist's wet dream. All the prejudices Victorian society projected on outsiders or even their own working class...

D&D General If A Noble holds 1 title per country in 2 neighbouring countries what can he do if those countries go to war?, after all no matter what he lose's

I agree with all exceptions, but claim that they are just that; exceptions. Great and important exceptions, that become more and more common over time, until today this is the expected behavior. And as I said, most fantasy worlds are less barbaric than human history. But even today we still have...
