    D&D 5E (2014) Norse World

I think a big part of why I can't decide what I think here is because I don't know what modern anthropology means by the terms animism and polytheism. A short presentation or a pointer to a short, easy to read explanation of these terms.

D&D General Best Adventure Path (spanning 10+ levels) of all time?

What was to gross for my game would be prefect for Dark Sun. :)

D&D General Best Adventure Path (spanning 10+ levels) of all time?

I played Curse of the Crimson throne, and it's ok, but I feel Hell's Rebels does a similiar theme better. Crimson Throne has that bait-and-switchin parts 4 and 5 where a party of city adventurers are suddenly supposed to live out barbarian challenges. Quite odd. This kind of bait and switch was...

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

I have a very positive impression of where 1D&D is going. I am happy I can now continue to follow and play 5E and potentially 1D&D in the future.

    D&D 5E (2024) Change in Charisma Description

Our rule is that your appearance depends on which Hollywood actor is playing your part - and 95% of them are gorgeous. Charisma is how the role is written. Except now in Savage Worlds Pathfinder, there are attribute-based merits.

D&D 5E (2024) Cleric play test results? Next playtest?

Is there a place we can look up the playtest reports? Overall, I like One D&D so far. I don't recall my exact comments but I was overall positive. Edit: I man results of the Cleric playtest report.

D&D General Best Adventure Path (spanning 10+ levels) of all time?

I'd say Savage Tide is the most successful adventure path I've run, from the last 12 or so issues of Paizo's Dungeon Magazine run. We also had a lot of fun with Skull & Shackles, once we got thru the first book.

D&D 5E (2014) Which D&D books currently scheduled for 2023 are you interested in?

Phandelver Campaign gave me wibes of Pools of Radiance, I am considering running that in Highport, on the Pomarj in the World of Greyhawk. But I will want to read some reviews first.

What are you reading in 2023?

Late to the party. I've taken up Audible and reading audio book. Read up on some Jane Austen and The Portrait of Dorian Grey. Solid classics. I am attracted by Aurelius, and that's likely up next. I have all these books as "free" offers from Audible Its free as long as you subscribe... Tried...

D&D General How Insane Is This Idea?

There is a conversion of Savage Worlds to play Pathfinder-like. I have tried this a little and am scheduled to try more of it. It has taken a very broad-strokes view of the conversion of Pathfinder into Savage Worlds. The rules are firmly Savage World, with new perks that emulate the class...

    D&D General "Why Greyhawk?" in 2023 - grodog's thoughts

I use Greyhawk, but have made it my own, and we are well into the 6th century. Why do I like Greyhawk? Its because I feel the world is more coherent than similiar worlds like Golarion or the Forgotten Realms. They are all kitchen sink worlds, but to neighbouring countries in Greyhawk carry much...

D&D 5E (2014) Casual player responses to DMs planning to avoid WotC 5e/1DnD rules

As a GM for some casual players and some who are not, my comment is that it is very much up to me. THey will play what I GM. The main contender for us is a homebrew game I wrote but which is quite complex - it is a level game but without classes. I have liked what I've seen of One D&D so far, so...

D&D 5E (2024) What could One D&D do to push the game more toward story?

Once the framing is done, does it matter how it is done? Basically, this style of game is constant godmoding (without the negative connotation)?

D&D 5E (2024) What could One D&D do to bring the game back to the dungeon?

At this point I am trying to not be adversarial, just to understand. What I mean when I say "force action" is that the rules compel choices. Initiative rolls generally do not involve choices. Failed willpower rolls to stop reading an inscription do. Edit: Forcing the GM - more on that below...

D&D 5E (2024) What could One D&D do to push the game more toward story?

Just to see if I understand this, let me paint two examples, one using AW and one using 5E. The scene framing is the same, a thief-type character moving down a passage. 5E DM: Roll Perception please. Player: 6 DM You fall into A 10 foot pit and take 4 damage. AW GM: There might be traps in a...

D&D 5E (2024) What could One D&D do to push the game more toward story?

These are all rather depressing. Our games and character motivations tend to be more positive, with motivations revolving around making friends and discovering different aspects of the world. Our motivations don't generate much drama. Yes, there is conflict because the world can be adversarial...

D&D 5E (2024) What could One D&D do to bring the game back to the dungeon?

I agree this is a good thing. Fail-forward and making failed rolls not catastrophic is important in all styles of RPGs to avoid turtling down. An experienced GM can use such forgiving techniques to encourage players to take chances. What Torchbearer seems to do (from how you describe it) is to...

D&D General Is there a Duck humanoid species in dungeons and dragons?

The joke in RQ used to be "I do like ducks, but the apple sauce is also important".

D&D 5E (2024) What could One D&D do to bring the game back to the dungeon?

What makes this gameist is that your motivation is that of the player, not the character. The character wants to succeed, but the player wishes their own character to first fail and only then succeed. The player's role goes from protagonist to author and the game is third person instead of first...
