    D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk 2024: comparing Oerth and Earth

Agree that this is baffling, I wonder if this was an editorial mistake? But there were already things off about the Twin Cataclysms. The Suel supposedly used the power of Tarizdun to smite the Bakluni, while the Bakluni retaliated with less evil elemental fire. The Baklun lands are now a barren...

D&D 5E (2024) Using AI for Your Home Game

The social conventions of the future are very hard to predict. Today we are used to being anonymous in certain respects. I am not at all sure the people of the future will mind sharing their data. I swear at Facebook for showing me posts irrelevant to me because it seems to think I live in the...

D&D 5E (2024) Using AI for Your Home Game

I am in a group with 2 artists. Guess who are working with AI? One of them. Doing both text and images. A relevant point is that he suffered a stroke a few years back, so drawing has become harder. We see Ai as a tool. Like any tool, it takes skill to use. Yes, it is fast and has a high degree...

D&D 5E (2014) [House Rule] Dropping proficiency bonus

I agree on the saving throw issue. High level critters also have high AC that might be hard to defeat using only stat mod. Also, your players must not be using buffs much, as those are the main source of complexity in my games.

    D&D 5E (2024) Why aren't you using 5e 2024?

I am currently playing a campaign in D&D 2014 and I've read up on 2024, but I am not going to change over, instead going for Blades in the Dark. I do think 2024 is an improvement, but my problem is with D&D above level 10. 2014 worked well up to level 10. Yes, the Bladesinger wizard was...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

Dragonbane was originally inspired by Basic Role Playing (the root system of Rune Quest) and like all those games luck is a big factor, much larger than in D&D. This is not conducive to long campaigns, a few unlucky rolls can easily end a character and many unlucky rolls can end a campaign...

    D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk 2024: comparing Oerth and Earth

I find the Trillorans to be Hollywood vikings, who have a connection to Nordic vikings, so if I was inclined to be offended over this, I could be. I am not, and I consider the inclination to be insulted over such things not conductive to fun gaming. There is a point in published material trying...

    D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk 2024: comparing Oerth and Earth

I'm Swedish with German and Baltic ancestry, and I in no way take offense over the idea that Trillorans are of Suel descent. My view on the Suel are that they are Hollywood villains. As such they can be Romans, Vikings, Arabs, almost whatever as long as they were villains in a Hollywood film...

    D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk 2024: comparing Oerth and Earth

About latitude in the American north-east and European north-west. Because of how ocean currents work (more so in the Atlantic, but the same exists in the Pacific) Europe is much warmer than corresponding latitudes in America. Its simply not comparable. So it makes perfect sense for lands in...

D&D General Where's the safest place to live in the World of Greyhawk?

I was going to post, but the OP choose the spot I would pick too. :) Perhaps the Yeomanry is even safer. I wouldn't call Enstad safe - those court intrigues can be vicious! Also elves in my game are fairly racist, but that is just in my game. The City of Greyhawk is safe, it has plot armor, But...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

Gong back to the OP, I am currently infatuated with Blades in the Dark. It eliminates planning and picking equipment in advance. I love it so far and am currently trying to hammer it into resembling DnD enough to run it in Greyhawk. Here is my rules, mainly new playbooks, new crew playbooks, and...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

What part of it do you think is a typo? I have a touch of dyslexia and might miss something obvious. Its not written to be a joke. Edit: Seems I did make a hilarious typo here - now corrected. Doing became dong - which was not good considering the subject. :D

Roleplaying Mechanics - The Value Test [Mechanics for Roleplaying instead of no mechanics]

I played quite a lot of 1st edition Pendragon, and what we did after playing around different ways was to award glory based on your value in the trait you let direct your action. So the player always decided, no die rolls, but you get more Glory by playing out a high personality score. You also...

Players Don't Care About Your Setting

I've made peace with this issue. Yes, its hard to get players engaged with my setting. But they can stand me occasionally taking about that this and that happened because of setting reasons. I've come to realize I mainly work on the setting for my own sake, to make the stories make sense to me...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

People usually hate doing in-game what they do in RL. My usual point here is that female players don't want to play out gender issues in game, but by the same token i don't think office workers want to do office work as a part of the game. And bookkeeping equipment is close to office work.

Game Design: Acquiring Equipment as Part of Game Play

Not sure if this is at all what you want, but in Blades in the Dark you don't select your equipment in advance. You are assumed to have a plan, and that means that when you need a certain piece of equipment, you have it. The limit is that you select your level of load at the start of each...
