D&D General Is D&D Survey Feedback Read? [UPDATED!]

They obviously take feedback on board. Plenty of playtest stuff has been revised and dropped. This is already happening in the OneD&D playtest. And obviously you should do the survey and say no. But a split has formed, some have gone and will never look back (and some had already left, or...

    Ginny Di on the OGL

I had been thinking about this, and Ginny Di really helped make the point. These days, there is such a thing as "influencers". Also, there is the related phenomenon of the "internet" As the name implies certain people can influence the spending of others, largely through this internet. In fact...

D&D 5E (2024) New leak looks real bad

By way of comparison, a pro subscription on roll20 (which is one better then what I have) is 100 per year. The DM bundle plus curse of strahd is 80, and permanent. This is all per table, and half the cost.

D&D 5E (2024) New leak looks real bad

$360 per player per year? I have not said it until now, but holy cow!

So WHY Didn't The OGL Contain The Word 'Irrevocable'?

I think this is mostly right. With 5e, WotC probably just wanted things to turnaround for D&D, with limited attention or concern for the details. New leadership for D&D embraced the OGL as part of that, and D&D turnaround and then some. This success eventually brought more serious attention...

D&D 5E (2014) Something to consider about Grognards and the OGL...

I have played through all editions and put up with a lot from the company that makes it. I mentioned T&R in another thread, and still remember reading the Dragon were Gygax revealed that he had left the company. The name on the tin might matter. D&D current popularity and recognition is...

WotC has lost control of the OGL

Its what makes open content open.

D&D 5E (2014) So this is how D&D 5e dies, a beautiful start only to die in disgrace because of mismanagement. RIP 5e

I remember T$R aggressively alienating fans and suing creators over its RP. Then it just about did go bankrupt--and D&D did just about disappear. Fortunately a big fan of the game had recently come into a lot of money. Then there was 3.5 (which many fans were too forgiving of, but cracks...

    Old timers?

And the story hours…Wulf Ratbane I guess was too hard an act to follow.

D&D 5E (2014) So this is how D&D 5e dies, a beautiful start only to die in disgrace because of mismanagement. RIP 5e

When they announced that 5e was to be absorbed into “1 D&D”, it was actually pretty ominous if you think about it. But 5.0 will live on, just as B/X and AD&D have. And your books will still work, just like before!

    Old timers?

Here a while. Long enough to remember Hong and the other first wave of posters. Long enough to really get on Pirate Cats nerves when he still moderated. But I still pronounced the “EN” as a single syllable, even after I knew who Eric Noah was.

WotC might still want to stop Third Party VTTs in their new draft

Yes. WotC seems worried by this, but they have the power. Come 2024 Roll20 will really want the latest version of D&D, and WotC will set the terms.

D&D General Are You Seriously Planning to Stop Playing and/or Running D&D Over The Recent OGL Developments?

Yes. Its more like stop buying. Or specifically not resume buying.

Paizo Announces New Irrevocable Open RPG License To Replace the OGL

Some of this has been touched on up thread, but this announcement implies 1. No side deal has been reached. Or will be. 2. They believe they can completely decouple from the a WotC SRD--to the extent to which they may still cite it. 3. They are willing to go to court if challenged on 2. All...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D's official math...

But there will still be some link to monster HP and PC damage, or at least some implicit assumption.

Electronic Freedom Foundation weighs in on the OGL!

That was the big reveal for me. I found it easier to think in terms of non-fiction, and really boring fact based non-fiction, with which I am quite familiar. For non-fiction, you can't copyright either factual information or common terms and expressions, including technical ones. Even if...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D's official math...

Monster math, and the way the prof bonus is baked into things, should be the relatively straightforward part. Its always the PCs and their damage were it gets hairy. 5e seems to assume a lot of rounds of combat per day, to get PC damage to average out. Not sure how this interfaces with the...

Electronic Freedom Foundation weighs in on the OGL!

This was posted in one of the other threads. I thought it was very interesting. Maybe the OGL will go. But maybe we shouldn’t care so much if it does.
