What We Lose When We Eliminate Controversial Content

The context is all right there. All that is left from dismissing literature that is disliked or uncomfortable is the ashes of a former library. It's a bit like the difference between Orwell's vision of dystopia and Huxley's... Orwell showed us his fear of a culture where reading was not allowed...

What We Lose When We Eliminate Controversial Content

RPGs are part of the long tradition of collective storytelling. At their best, they are part of literature, however one defines the form. "Literature is the art of teaching us how to be." (Dr Jonathan Barz) "I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound or stab us. If the book...

    Chaosium hinting at something big.

Although I was in a part of the world that Dallas didn't reach, the Husband has vivid memories of Dr Johnny Fever circa 1980. As he grew up, he came to resemble the good Doctor in more ways than just becoming a radio DJ. 😎 It's curious and marvelous what our brains hang on to and send to the...

With sardonic humor, that's what the Husband said when he saw this.

I should write a book called "Diary of an RPG Hoarder"

Um. To use the American aphorism: yeah, no.

I should write a book called "Diary of an RPG Hoarder"

The antithesis of hoarding such books is when you have a collection of medical bills that insurance won't cover.

Public Playtests Should Be Fully Playable

Playtesters are only getting the full rules early if those rules are written so well that nothing needs to be edited after playtesting. And what game was written so perfectly that nothing needed fixing after being tested?

Ethics & Ettiquette: Deceased player, living character(s)

My own perspective is to continue on to the benefit of the living, so long as the deceased did not suggest something to the contrary. I have a unique relationship with so-called "real life" and rpgs, since I began my longterm relationship with gaming at the same point in time and space I met...

What Licensed RPG Do You Wish Existed But Doesn't?

I don't get offended by words. Especially words on the internet. I did find it a curious concept to dismiss a (non-existent) game because the title character would be over-powered in comparison with player characters since that is a common theme in myriad licensed IPs.

Thoughts on the Failure of Licensed IP in the Hobby: The Lack of Disney-fication is a Feature, not a Bug

Or the massive stinking landfill just outside of town that causes people to move elsewhere to find better pastures and outlets for their needs... :p

What Licensed RPG Do You Wish Existed But Doesn't?

In Conan-branded games, is having Conan in the game a problem? Only if they fight him. In Stormbringer, is Elric an issue for the PCs to be around? Well, yes and no; Elric isn't the problem, it's that damned sword of his. How about Kirk or Picard in Star Trek? Sherlock Holmes!? No, thank you...
