Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I was wondering how message boards would work if people could color code their posts to let the reader know where they were coming from (Red - people who put pineapple on pizza are satan, Orange - I hate pineapple on my pizza and look down on people who like it, Yellow - I don't like pineapple...

D&D Historian Benn Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism

Well, the public at large in the North anyway: Civil Rights Act of 1964, for example: House Reps from South: 8-94 House Reps from Rest: 281-32 Senators from South: 1-22 Senators from Rest: 1-21 To be fair, much/most of the north was very segregated geographically and unofficially (as opposed...

And then (basically) Phyllis Schlafly's long planning paid off and she completed her remolding of the GOP, which killed the ERA, and and took all the forward momentum on the ERA and related issues out of the US's sails. (Chapter 15 in Lepore's "These Truths" is really depressing about it).

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I kind of want a @Snarf Zagyg post on why looking for nuance on message boards is a mug's game. But I kind of want it to (atypically) be very terse and unnuanced. [Is it "a snarf Zagyg post" or "an at-Snarf Zagyg post!?. And so I think any productivity I had today is definitely gone.]

User Name and Avatars: Origin Stories

I had a pair of PC/NPC names I really liked and never got around to using back in the day. Cadence was the last name of one of them*, and sounds kind of like it could be anything (as in not even a persons name) so as not to leave anyone with preconceived notions. I couldn't decide on an avatar...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Not passed the first line here, because I don't hate the mods. But, I would kind of like a rule where if the conversation goes: A: X! Always X! B: Always X, for everything?!? A: Yes, Always X! B: <example of X> A: <some sort of complaint justifiying X why, contra to the rules of logic...

D&D General On Early D&D and Problematic Faves: How to Grapple with the Sins of the Past

I brought it up obliquely here (surprised I hadn't seen it anywhere in my usual social media haunts until three days in). Hadn't seen the part where Palmer suggested there were a lot more. Personally I like to wait until things are solidified before opining. In any case, even his side sounds...

    D&D 5E (2024) Could we get a Bloomburrow (Redwall) setting for 5.24?

Last one. I would so fork over all kinds of money if there was a Disney's Robin Hood Secret Lair to go with this set...

    D&D 5E (2024) Could we get a Bloomburrow (Redwall) setting for 5.24?

I love being able to pick exactly the art I like best. I'm also glad that I'm mentally at a a point where I only get the cards that build on a dozen or so EDH themes. Like Knights. ..

    D&D 5E (2024) Could we get a Bloomburrow (Redwall) setting for 5.24?

The card art is pretty nice! https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=%28game%3Apaper%29+%28set%3Ablb+OR+set%3Ablc+OR+set%3Atblc%29+include%3Aextras+unique%3Aprints Most of the cards have a few different styles. Here is the first (so far) alphabetically:

I think this is it. It feels like acting defensively immediately when called out about something you thought was ok is a thing people do. And taking a while to change is a people thing. But eventually if there isn't a change, wtf - especially if there have been a couple decades to cogitate on it.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I've pretty much mastered the art of not responding to everything that seems insipid. Now if I could just stop rubbernecking the insipid posts like they were a spectacular traffic accident. I guess on the plus side it only slows me down and not everyone else reading them...

D&D 5E (2014) Who tried to end the OGL?

Finally got back to this tangent... "Causal Inference" is currently one of the hot topics in statistics and related fields. The big focus is examining what can be done if you don't have an experiment, but can make some other assumptions. Like most things in statistics it will probably be...

I'm almost a bit envious of folks who have all the original books and copies of the pre-published version, fanzines, and correspondences. Except this fits perfectly on the bookshelf next to my other D&D books and I don't have to worry about damaging a collectible when I read it. In any case, I...
