D&D General Satanic Panic at the Disco- Did Beelzebubba Cause D&D's First Crash, Y'all?

Anecdote: despite attending a private Catholic HS in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in the early/mid 1980s, the only people who genuinely confronted me about playing D&D (and listening to heavy metal music- another target of the Satanic Panic) were my godmother and my born-again art teacher.* In...

D&D General Satanic Panic at the Disco- Did Beelzebubba Cause D&D's First Crash, Y'all?

My sleep deprived brain envisioned this literally. As in Hades throwing undead critters at Pluto.

What other fantasy games are out there?

I’ve often thought about that game, but never pulled the trigger. I can envision a Border Collie similar to your Corgi. Or maybe a Husky bard ( 😂 ). OTOH, I recently designed a 3.5Ed Fey pc who was essentially a 2 headed anthropomorphic Samoyed fighter…

What Do You Call This Popular Beverage?

Tangent: one of the bases Dad (and thus, our family) was stationed at in the 1970s was Fort Lewis, where I got hooked on Shasta. I seem to recall it being called “pop” back then.

Could an American write Doctor Who? - Babylon 5 creator throws hat in the ring

I think he might…but most likely only as a little inside joke. The man does have a sense of humor. Or hires people who do. Remember this?

Happy Haggert Hurried Hungry Hitch Hiking Hired Henchmen Hivers.... apply within

My personal take on this kind of thing is that it depends on your level of interest, your innate talents, and your motivation. Someone who is REALLY interested, has a knack for something, and is VERY motivated will do better than people who lack one or more of those qualities.

    The EN World Selfie Thread

I wanted to post a very retro photo. This is my paternal grandfather and I, getting ready to attend a group “sweet 16”/society presentation event one of my cousins was in. I had to be dressed formally because I was taking her father’s place for the Father/Daughter dance*; he’s in a tux because...

Could an American write Doctor Who? - Babylon 5 creator throws hat in the ring

If JMS takes the Who helm, he could easily have a mini B5 reboot as a story arc where the events take place in a pocket dimension within another TARDIS- a shoutout to The Pirate Planet, or a meta-matryoshka plotline.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

This reminded me of a particular wake-up call I had a few years ago about the various things we take for granted in so many discussions. I’m a long-time participant in a cooking thread on another board. One day, a legit chef asked me about making gumbo. So I decided to post a recipe in the...

Not the nicest neighbors, though. Might be a step down from Idiot Coworker Jim.

Eggplant is the veggie that defines the line between those I like and those I don’t.

    Cookin again

Recently went to Cava for the second time. The first time was years ago, shortly after they bought out Zoë’s. We weren’t impressed then, but decided to give them one more chance. All in all, the pita wraps my Mom & I had were tasty and did NOT skimp on ingredients, so that was a solid win...

    Cookin again

I’m late to the chimichurri party, having only had it for the first time within the past 4 years or so. A good one can be a great pairing with beef, no question!

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

It can expose nuances, inconsistencies, logical gaps & hypocrisy. It may shed light into the depths of beliefs or dislikes. It may reveal previously unrealized dimensions to the point being discussed. All of which can be used or even critical when engaging in discussions, negotiations...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Back in the 1990s when I was practicing Entertainment law most regularly, I saw a survey of music consumers that revealed that 25% would download tracks from a pirate site, even if they knew it was a front for organized crime or terrorists. If that was part of the mentality of the buying...

The official EN World puppy/doggo thread

I understood, but also can see the ambiguity in retrospect. As I recall, a dog in one of James Herriot’s books did likewise. But it didn’t end well for that one.
