D&D General What makes a TTRPG a "D&D Variant" to you?

Is DCC a DnD variant? It has classes and levels. It uses a d20, but it also uses a ton of weird (zocchi) dice. It has 6 attributes, but they don't fully map to 5e (luck, primarily). I'd like to say yes, but gosh how are we defining DnD variants? Ha, that's what this is all about, eh?

Dragon Delves Dedicated to Chris Perkins

Nothing turns me off of an adventure faster than looking early in on it and NOT seeing a summary. It happens sometimes and I cannot understand it.

Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft: Heir of Strahd Review

I'm ignorant of the point you're trying to make. As I said, I was only correcting the suggestions of "kenku have never been bad" and "kenku were enemies in maybe one adventure." Is your point that you can replace enemy "orcs of gruumsh" with "human cultists of orcus" in lots of adventures...

Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft: Heir of Strahd Review

That's a pretty solid point. To be fair video games make money by selling options that aren't purely cosmetic as well, but the cosmetic ones get them in less trouble with the game's community (being accused of Pay-to-Win). But I'd be lying if I said I haven't spent a lot of $ on dumb game skins :|

edit: also, how do you blur your text like that instead of putting it in spoiler blocks?

Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft: Heir of Strahd Review

I mean.. I do have a more exhaustive list, but here are some: Forsaken Arch A City on the Edge Once in Waterdeep The Howling Void Three Faces of Evil Cloak and Shadows Stormcrow Tor Princes of the Apocalypse BTW I provided these just as a fact-check, because someone else above said kenku had...

Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft: Heir of Strahd Review

Age of Worms, they're there for service to Vecna. I happen to be running that campaign so it was an easy answer 😆

Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft: Heir of Strahd Review

I think this is a little misleading. They sure do some bad stuff, even if their alignment isn't listed as evil. MM2 Kenku may appear to be friendly, helpful, and even generous. They freely give treasure to humans and demihumans, but it is rarely genuine and crumbles into dust within a day. They...

I think this needs to be quoted on the book's cover 😅

D&D General D&D Version of Boardgame Horrified Coming In August

Appreciate those of you with comments on the game itself- I've played many many board games but haven't heard of Horrified, but I'd welcome a good co-op game that's easy to get into.

D&D General D&D With Historical Villains (Or, "Why Would Truck-kun Do This?")

There are some historical DnD books out there.. but yes, Reign of Winter is a classic what with the world-hopping-to-ww1-era-ish-earth. But maybe those historical books have some ideas. I'm drawing a blank, though. It's a fun idea to play with, hoping others have better input than I :'D edit...

    RPG Evolution: Eat, Kill, Love

How do they decide whether to kill eat or love? Kill usually involves "is it threatening us, or does it have something we want and we think it'd kill us if we took it?" Eat/harvest is "will we get mechanical benefits out of it in some way, or possibly mount its skull on our wagon?" Love is "is...

ToV Tales of the Valiant Player's Guide and Monster Vault Free on Alchemy today (including PDFs!)

Still trying to figure this out, btw. I added them to my account but I can't figure out where on the site to get said PDFs.

ToV Tales of the Valiant Player's Guide and Monster Vault Free on Alchemy today (including PDFs!)

I think that's harsh, considering you're just signing up for a free account and you can get the PDFs for stuff like ToV and ToV's Monster Vault.

D&D 5E (2024) Is There A New Sheriff in Town?

Since they're so concerned re: making something not backwards-compatible (a whole new edition), maybe it'd be some sort of conversion supplement- "CritRole-ify your game today! Inject Daggerheart narrative rules like a dagger through the heart!"

D&D 5E (2024) So what's going on with the October book?

That's a good point, I think that's just mismatched expectations. It's called Dragon Heist so players expected to be heisting, not to be going after those who were doing the heist. The back-of-the-book text is ambiguous, so I can see either way:

D&D 5E (2024) So what's going on with the October book?

Half-baked products can still have fans. The Spelljammer setting itself is fun and evocative- but the book set left a lot to be desired. Sections were unfinished, monsters couldn't make use of their own combo abilities, they literally copy+pasted text from the 2e content, the adventure seemed to...

Monty of Dungeon Dudes infuriated at publishers writing own licenses instead of CC – WOTC most permissive

That's asking someone to put their own interpretation on another person's words, and say that's definitely the meaning... People do that all the time, but to demand that he interpret it for you and state it as gospel, when he isn't the one that actually wrote the post, would be presumptuous.

D&D 5E (2024) Is There A New Sheriff in Town?

Reminds me of how in the 2000s there were many MMOs with innovative ideas all trying to live alongside WoW, but 4-6 months after the new MMOs release WoW had incorporated those innovations into itself 😆
