If they did go for a heavy weapon, Dex would not be so wasted on a Barbarian..

D&D 5E (2014) 5e Paladin: Inspiring Leadership versus Polearm Master?

Yes, the extra attacks are huge, exactly because they get all the bonuses to them, just like a regular attack. Inspiring Leader is a great thematic pick, better the larger the party is. It is basically 'cast Cure Wounds x party size per short rest', if that helps. However, the best form of...

D&D 5E (2014) In Defense of the Beastmaster

Our Halfling Beastmaster would only get advantage on (melee) attacks against Small targets... So, ride a Wolf, because they have Pack Attack (advantage if ally next to target, which is you), and their bite can knock people prone, which would give your eventual extra attacks advantage. You'd be...

D&D 5E (2014) In Defense of the Beastmaster

Yes, Mounted Combatant is half damage on fail, no damage on save.

    D&D 5E (2014) Barbarian Duel-Wielding

TWF + Rage combine well enough, even without the fighting style, because that's an extra hit to add the Rage bonus to. As such, one should not multiclass out of Barb before lv5 and the second attack. It just really does not work for Dex primary.

D&D 5E (2014) In Defense of the Beastmaster

True words. Mounted Combat helps a ton, since you can direct attacks against yourself. However... If you get knocked prone in mounted combat, you need to make a DC 10 Dex save or fall off the mount. Same thing if your mount gets proned or pushed back (like, Thunderwave). The game does not say...

D&D 5E (2014) In Defense of the Beastmaster

Ah. I read it as 'the beast does not act', rather than 'the beast takes no ACTION SPECIFIC TYPES OF RULES TERMS'. If it can still move, that is... well, still quite useless, but at least the Rogue can get a Sneak Attack from its presence?

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock invocations using spell slots

None. Invocations are what you need when you don't have spell slots left, so these are just stupid as they stand.

D&D 5E (2014) In Defense of the Beastmaster

'Beast takes its turn on your initiative, though it doesn't take an action unless you command it to. On your turn, you can verbally command the beast where to move (no action required by you).' Yeah.

    D&D 5E (2014) Barbarian 'Unarmored Defense'

Very true. But... if you had other plans for the stat/feat picks before the teen levels, then dual-wield even without the fighting style is still okay enough - it is still an extra attack without expenditure, as instead of a big weapon's 2d6 + Str + Rage, you're doing d6 + Str + Rage + d6 + Rage.

By the rules, yes, because they don't even move without the Ranger shouting at them. Which means that even in combat, an area of silence makes the pet completely lost.

Where does this keep coming from? Pets only add proficiency bonus to saves they are proficient with, any they are proficient with NO saves, so.

D&D 5E (2014) In Defense of the Beastmaster

How about saying the tiger runs away if it got dropped to 0hp? It'll return after the battle, but lurk more on the sidelines, until they've gotten a rest. Not necessarily even a long rest, just a rest, if it feels like he's awfully fragile. And/or on turns when she's not actively using it, say...

    D&D 5E (2014) 2-Hander Style and Extra Dice

The style just says 'damage die', which is pretty damn clear. And crits double all dice, so there's plenty of other precedent. Also, the style needs to affect all damage dice, or Great Weapon fighting style is pointless, as Dueling will always get you more damage (and allows a shield).

D&D 5E (2014) Why is the Sorceror so limited in spell knowledge?

This... may be a very good point. Hmm. Had not considered the high-level impact. Beyond Wizard being able to freely use the lower slots for out-of-combat utility.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sage Advice!

Thanks for the compiling, Morrus! I wish Mearls didn't answer to stuff he doesn't know. Like the reach weapon ruling or do Warlock invocations mean Warlock level or character level... Still, Mearls saying 'free action can be used to sheathe your old weapon and draw a new one' does mean that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Barb vs Fighter vs Monk..vs Paladin!

It's also not really sustainable, as you need to spend 1 Ki for every d10 damage, so 4 hits would cost 4 ki for 4d10. Might be better for alpha at a higher level, like lv12? It just feels so wrong to ever give up the knockdown benefit of Open Hand - declare your Attack action, use bonus action...
