It Starts (Splatbooks - Martial Power in October)

I'm planning to get by on just the original 3 books - or I was. I may now have to pick up whatever book(s) include the druid (my favourite class since 2nd ed) and the bard (favourite class of one of my players), but that's it. Unless... Dash it! They're sucking me in all over again!

WotC_Rodney on Ari M. and Al Qadim

Add me to the list of people pleading for a 4e Al Qadim. It was my first (and only) campaign setting back when I first took up D&D back in the early 90s and I loved it. Interesting to see that it looks like a desire for Arabian Adventures is the most unifying positive thing to come to these 4e...

[Scooped?]Paragon Adventures to Start in October

I'd still rather a DM who'd had a chance to read and digest, especially the boxed out "Read this to the players when they enter this room" text. That DM's far more likely to run a smooth, fun game without saying "Hang on a sec, I should have done something else". Besides, easy to run and...

[Scooped?]Paragon Adventures to Start in October

Well, characters don't need to be Paragon levels by October. Part of the reason for releasing it then might be to give DMs time to find it, purchase it, read it through a few times and mentally prepare themselves for running it (even going to the extent of grabbing minis for the monsters in some...

    D&D 4E 4E Magic Items...

Really? Because I don't see how Boots of Water Walking, a Bag of Holding and a Helm of Perception (for example) are going to make killing an Ogre any easier.

DDM 2.0 stat cards are up!

Assuming it works as it did in the previous DDM version, it's a straight die roll. It's to simulate 20% and 50% miss chances without using any die other than a d20. Remember, this is a DDM only thing, mind. I suspect the mechanic will be utterly different in the RPG rules for 4e.

    WotC_Bruce serves the dragon

Except for the whole thing that's been mentioned several times above this in this thread. He didn't put the ring on. He took it from the bony finger, then promptly disappeared, leaving his fellows to fight the nasties.

DDM 2.0 stat cards are up!

Makes sense. Having looked through again, the thing that strikes me most, in a most definitely positive way, is the synergistic nature of a lot of the creatures' powers. A lot of them seem to have one attack that causes a certain condition (helpless, stunned, etc) and another that they can use...

DDM 2.0 stat cards are up!

One thing that struck me as an insight (potentially) into the RPG and at the same time quite cool was the pair of different attacks the Cliffwalk Archer had. Look like per-encounter shots that can either turn the tide of things (Blood Arrow) or really drive home an advantage (Timely Shot)...

DDM 2.0 stat cards are up!

Except that it's a one shot power. 1 burst of regeneration then you can hit it with whatever you like. I'm liking these stat cards a lot. Particularly interested in the Dwarf Brawler. Does this mean 4e has support for a fistfighter without being a monk? I hope so. An aside, does anyone know...

WotC Dave posts about "Prison Break" Playtesting

Or they used an area effect spell, and hit the Ref defence of one and missed the other, causing half damage. And in my limited experience, American Football is just Rugby made easier, with lots of stopping and 40lb of padding per person. (for reference, see Giles' quote in the Buffy episode...

    Races and Classes, Two-Weapon Fighting?

TWF could be very similar in its acquisition in 4e to 3.5e, in that Rangers get it for free, and everyone else has to spend a feat on it. The only difference could be that things have been cleaned up a bit and the feat you need is Ranger Training, not a separate TWF feat.

D&D 4E 4e Races and Classes: "Why we changed the gods"

That's all well and good, but it does pretty much tie the priest into staying on that one farm, thus kind of ruining his fledgeling adventuring career. As far as I'm concerned, the PHB needs simply enough gods to facilitate player choice without taking up pages that could be used to better...

WotC_PeterS talks about his "aggresive playtest" (with Le Rouse, SKR, & Noonan)

Alternity a 3e proving ground? Is this the same alternity that I played, with low being good on die rolls, target numbers being set by your skill levels, stats being the most important part of the character and difficulty of tasks determined by what die you rolled to add to or subtract from...

    From R&C: Fighters & Armor

So did WoW steal it from Diablo II? Cos that's what I thought of when I read your bit up there - the three trees of skills in Diablo II. I see that as a good thing. Certainly better than the only difference between Bob the cleric of Pelor and his twin brother Dave the other cleric of Pelor...

AOO's have to go, or be changed

I don't know about you, but if I were faced by a dragon (and had the courage not to collapse to teh ground in fear) I would NOT be just standing there. I would be dodging, ducking, bobbing and weaving as though my life depended on it (which it would). At the point I decided to cast the spell...

I know "Me too" posts are generally frowned upon, but I too am grateful for the sterling efforts of the scoop artists. I wouldn't know where to look if I didn't have this place!

    Wyvern Concept Design

I'm always amused by the 3.0 Tarrasque, where the colourer's misinterpreted the line drawing and put the eyes where the ears were intended to be. That wyvern makes 2 monster illustrations I've seen that have a clear positive image in my head. The gargoyle in the latest trog picture has me...

    Remember when ...

To be honest, I think most of the difference between the atmosphere of the 3e launch and the 4e launch comes down to 2 things:- 1) 3.5. If there hadn't been a 3.5, a lot of the people who started off wanting to hate 4e wouldn't have done. It would have been 8 years since the last version of the...
