but RPGs are better with bacon, well, because everything is better with bacon.

RPGs are ... Role Playing Games

I wonder if there is a thread in forums about books, movies, video games, TV shows, etc that argue that they are not 'plots'. This seems to me being oversensitive. What is wrong with an RPG having a plot? Or being organized into chapters. There are some very fine novels that have chapters...

    Chumming the dungeon

I don't often use the ideas that players inadvertently blurt out, but sometimes I'll write them down behind the screen just to hear them moan. An evil smile is appropriate too. I think the cry "Don't give the DM any more ideas!" is universal.

New Hampshire Gameday - Sat. May 15th

Put Barad & Barad Jr in the Titans and Nazi's game. I'll take your advice and play Dick Grayson Robin, just to help make the whole thing more confusing. You can't have too many Robins, eh? Barad Jr wants to play Static if you have stats for him.

    I need help Dming

Don't expect a change overnight in their behavior. Be happy with a little more role playing each outing. Don't expect too much too fast, and don't try creating too much too fast. You will be better served by slow, steady progress. Be very conscious of how you as DM communicate with the...

New Hampshire Gameday - Sat. May 15th

Able to confirm the morning, so kindly place Barad & spawn (Barad Jr) in the Dragon Age game. Thanks. We will likely sign up for the Mutants & Masterminds session soon (assuming there is room still) but not having been a DC fan I do not know the characters well or at all. We'd need to do some...

    Electronic support: Wikis

I use PMwiki from PmWiki | PmWiki / PmWiki I am running an executable on my laptop so it is pretending to be a limited server & running the wiki only locally. I was a noob on owning a wiki, so I won't recommend my organization scheme which clearly has some drawbacks. (although I am an...

If WotC decided to revitalize and support AD&D, would you play/buy it?

I understand the question but no. No interest in material as collectibles. I already own a complete set of AD&D material (at least it was enough for us to enjoy for over 15 years - no regrets) We decided to move to 3.x when it came out because we felt it improved our game. Since we already own...

Casual vs. serious gamers, DMs Groups, and stuff you'll never use in a game...

Another way I use background information like creation myth is to keep the world consistent for the players. The gods, the countries, major NPCs, etc all need to be depicted in a way that builds an environment that the players can expect, for the most part, to behave in a consistent way. The...

Casual vs. serious gamers, DMs Groups, and stuff you'll never use in a game...

As you detected from my comments in the blog, my group is a mix of casual to more serious in a sliding spectrum. I think they all enjoy the color. I hope the tone of the game is more clear from the color. I will really enjoy if they ever connect the dots between the creation myth (some of it...

Look upon my works, ye mighty... (my players stay out, please)

A series of garden/parks for the emperor's enjoyment, along with any special guests, that are static in time, season and weather. All the gardens are otherwise identical; have the same statues, layout, plant and/or animal life. Therefore at any time the emperor's whim may be satisfied. Feel...

New Hampshire Gameday - Sat. May 15th

Always interested in NH Gameday. Will verify schedule and confirm for Barad & Barad Jr. (@ 22 he really needs his own ENWorld name, have to speak to him about that  )

What do you call your company of adventurers?

Typically there has not been a name of the adventuring group. Our two exceptions have been: Cormyr game currently on hold - Companions of the Gauntlet. The obtaining of the adventurers decree from the crown was via the church of Torm, and two members of the group are adherents of Torm; a...

Do you actually CARE about your PC?

I am usually extremely attached to my characters, but that assumes they live long enough to form the attachment. We play a limited amount of different games, and a small number of campaigns within them. We are not racing from one game to another, and tend to play our characters over many...

How did you play back in the day? - forked from Q's Leveling Comparisons

I think the comments made about when you started playing, what was your age, and what modules were available are important points regarding what your adventures were like. Our group started around 79. We were unusual (as far as I can tell) because we were in our early 20s when we started...

    Surviving low-level old school D&D

Well said and agreed. This is how we like our D&D. For those who prodded every square foot of floor with a pole, listen at every door, and took every possible precaution in excrutiating detail - I refer you to page 97 of the AD&D DMG. Gary had little patience for that style of play and made...

    Surviving low-level old school D&D

Our first outing was Keep on the Borderlands. Me as DM. TPK in the first encounter. :-S Over the next year, between alternating DMs in a mixture of homebrew and modules, every player lost at least one character... most more. Yes some were lost to poor play or risky decisions. Many were...
